Elaine was proudly coached by Peter Burrows and Marylynn Gelderman throughout her amateur and professional career. She was one of the first woman to land many triple jumps in her programs. Her father was very interested in the way people used their bodies, an interest that inspired her daughter. In only seven years, Graham went from a dance student, to a teacher, to one of the best-known performers of all time. In these seven years, she probably had the expert hours of 10,000 hours, which according to Gladwell would make her an outlier. When I first started playing sports it was it was all for fun until I found the sports I truly loved and was serious about them. The first sport I ever tried was when I was 4, I did gymnastics. I loved it so much and I would watch the older girls hoping that would be me one day. I only did it for 2 years though because the place I went to moved somewhere else so I stopped. CHILD BEAUTY PAGEANTS The idea of Beauty Pageants started back in 1921 when the owner of an Atlantic City hotel thought of the idea in order to promote tourism. The winner of these contests would gain the title of Miss America, this has been a yearly event ever since. Then when the 1960’s came about pageants were becoming so popular that a ‘Little Miss America’ was started, originally open to 13 – 17 year olds but by the time 1964 came around there were over 35,000 participants which prompted an age division. Now a days children as young as two and three also participate. Beauty pageants as we know them today arisen in the late 1960’s in Miami, Florida.
