Moving With Martha Martha Graham was a famous dancer who brought a different kind of dancing to the world. Her dance moves changed the world of dance forever. Martha Graham would be represented as a person different than most others. In the novel Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, which is a non- fiction self help, Graham would be represented as an outlier. Her father helped her make many of her decisions during her life, which brought her to be the outlier she was. Martha Graham’s legacy from her father’s job, opportunities from her father’s death, and from her many hours of dancing and choreographing made it clear that she was an outlier. Her father was very interested in the way people used their bodies, an interest that inspired her daughter. In only seven years, Graham went from a dance student, to a teacher, to one of the best-known performers of all time. In these seven years, she probably had the expert hours of 10,000 hours, which according to Gladwell would make her an outlier. Many of her dances came from past history and history that was surrounding her. Many outliers got their ideas and thoughts on the outside history that was surrounding them as well. Since her father’s job involved a lot of physical movement with aiding nervous disorders, her dances involved a lot of movement. She believed her physical movements and physical expressions gave her spiritual and emotional looks that were different from most other dances. She danced for much of her life and she choreographed for basically her whole entire life. According to Gladwell, she would be considered an outlier since she most likely had over 10,000 hours of dancing and choreography, so she is an expert at it.
