Some are earlier than others and some must be later. In the short story, "The Most Powerful Question a Parent Can Ask..." by 'Neil Millar' shows the most respectful approach of parents to their children because when they talk to their children, they make them understand in a calm voice and not be all tensed which will just confuse the child. Also they make their children understand by not forcing them to do chores, but telling them how responsibility will grow on you later in life, and eventually you will have to learn it at some point of life. They explain to their kids much more in a depth concept which makes their kids want to learn so they will be well prepared for the future. "Parents are guides and leaders to their children, not a nanny."
Critique of “Will Your Jobs Be Exported” by Alan S. Blinder Starting in elementary school teacher’s begin to prepare you for standardize testing. You learn all this material, and test on it, learn the material… and the cycle continues. Kids who cannot test well drop out or fail and are looked down on by society , kids who succeed pass and continue on and are praised, the question is does that particular style of learning come in handy when all the American people jobs are being exported. According to an article in The Atlantic news paper “53% of recent college graduates are jobless or unemployed” so in the end are we not all equal? When all the jobs of the future go to personal service jobs, will American children only know how to test or fail or to invest all their time into schooling for professions that will not pay?
Rosa Lee was the one that her children had to look up to and the ones that decided to follow in her footsteps ended up in the same situation as her. “When her children were young-the ages of the grandson and granddaughter-she taught them how to shoplift as well” (40). Parents have no choice but to be good role models. It is part of the job of raising children. The best way to teach a child is through example by being the best role model one can
Thesis: Many pieces of literature reveal the theme of bullying such as; Please Stop Laughing At Me by Jodee Blanco, but people should look for something good in others instead of the bad will make differences. Bullying has been going on for years and not only in school but also all over. When is it ever going to stop and look for something good in someone instead of the bad things? Going to school should be exciting, seeing your friends and learning new things, but for some it’s the worst part of their day. Going to school shouldn’t be a punishment.
don’t you think a couple of minutes you’d spend on a line for metal detecting may save the life of another school mate or even yourself? Sometimes if you really think about it patience is the border between life and death. Have you noticed that the percentage of school shootings have decreased mightily over the years? They have but that does not mean it is not prone to happen again. One thing that I have read in the Daily News was that school shootings are the number one cause of student deaths in the United States and this is very sad.
It was said that one ‘solution’ to the ‘problem’ of inequity was to ‘educate the parents’ (Thomson, P 2002, p. 3) and encourage them to ‘supervise’ their children whilst doing homework. This suggests that with the parent’s encouragement and reinforcement towards the child, they are more likely to want to succeed and feel they have the right to succeed, instead of there being a boundary between the advantaged and disadvantaged children. The parents of both Vicki and Thanh want the best for their children, to graduate and achieve a ‘university’ (Thomson, P 2002, p.2) degree. However Vicki is more likely to succeed because of her parent’s educational background and will be able to provide the support that she needs going through school, whereas Thanh will have to find other sources for educational help because his parents do not have the knowledge that he
This story shows that it really doesn’t take much to motivate and inspire a child. We having the luxury of education need to be more diligent in encouraging our children to be educated and useful members of society. We must also teach them tolerance because not all people have had the opportunities that we have had. In my life experience I believe that many things like racism, sexism, and many other intolerant behaviors would disappear. Hate would be a thing of the past our children is where this must start, raising our kids with tolerance will make the future a better
Jenny Graves: I love being able to help the younger generations learn and to guide them to be the very best they can be in life. After all they are our future and without us to guide them then the future does not look too promising. Cynthia Moore: What made you choose a career in early childhood education? Jenny Graves: The lack of dedication among the teacher’s I had growing up. To them it was just another job and I wanted more for those learning.
I really like the idea of the author that there are two kinds of mind-set: fixed mind-set and growth mind-set. However, I don’t agree that it is only educators’ fault that some kids have fixed mind-set. I think that it all starts in the family, way before school. Parents think their kids are special and tell them that they can achieve everything they want. But parents often forget to mention that the key to success is hard work.
