Many cultures believed that gods or goddesses created life. For example within the Christian religious tradition, it is believed that organisms were created by an almighty god. Due to the lack of scientific material, scientists are unable to test this theory of life, leading them to seek answers from a naturalist explanation. Up until the mid- nineteenth century, naturalists held onto the idea of spontaneous generation. This theory suggested that life was created out of nothing.
However, creationism says that the world and living things was created by God. Creationism refuses the idea of evolution and it causes some arguments about whether evolution should be taught in schools or not. Evolution should be taught in schools so that students can gain different points of view about human nature. Creationists believe that creationism explains the existence of God. They do not believe that species change into totally different and separate animals through evolution, as sacred books mention about existence of God and they contains strict rules.
Some believe in the evolution theory that science created human beings. Others believe in the creation theory; they believe in some sort of God or intelligent design created the earth and humans. Who knows the real truth? Why does this subject stir up so much controversy? There has always been much attention about our origins as people.
Hinduism: The creation of man and woman We know the two origin of creation. One is based on the bible (christian), the creation of man and woman by God. The other is the scientific study of the creation, the theory of evolution by Charles Darwin. Little did we know that there are also other stories on how did humanity really started. In Hinduism, they also have their own share of story on the creation of man and woman.
DARWIN'S THEORY OF EVOLUTION postulates that 'life' 2 on Earth arose from non-living matter entirely by way of some unknown, 'unconscious', mechanistic, natural process on a pre-biotic earth and then proceeded to evolve into more complex life forms almost exclusively by way of a random mutation and natural selection process, 3 and all occurring without the involvement of an over lighting consciousness or 'creator'. Darwin's model of evolution, known as "the survival of the fittest", is widely accepted by most of the contemporary scientific community, as well as the general public, as a "fact of life" as there is little doubt this process does play a significant part in changing the characteristics within the pre-existing gene pool of a species. (a process known as micro-evolution within species) On the face of it, Darwin's theory is so elegantly simple and in accordance with so many of the day-to-day observations of modern genetics that it does indeed appear to be self evident. However, close examination of a whole raft of scientific data reveals the absence of virtually any empirical scientific evidence in support of the theory, either regarding the alleged
Charles Darwin was famous for his controversial theory that animals evolved by means of natural selection. He produced a book about his theory, implicating that humans were not especially created, but had evolved. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/historic_figures/darwin_charles.shtml) Darwin developed his theory of natural selection in 1837. Before this, it was generally believed that every species was specially created by God, and could not be altered. Up until his voyage on the HMS Beagle, Darwin, like all others, believed in a traditional Biblical creation of all life forms.
The changes include the belief that the scientific method is the supreme law of knowledge; the view that the universe is composed of elementary material building blocks; and the belief in unlimited material progress to be achieved through economic and technological growth. In the past, the old model was traditionally ruled by knowledge gained through religion and mysticism. The new model serves to avoid an extremely rational thinking, scientific based model of consciousness and reality. According to Marx, the roots of social evolution were deep in economic and technological growth, not ideas or values. Charles Darwin had similar ideas, but about biological evolution, emphasizing the importance of just conflict and struggle.
Certain issues are more sensitive than others and the topic of religion is one of them. In science, there are theories about how the world was created such as the creation theory and the evolution theory. For example, during science class when I have to discuss the evolution theory, I might feel that it is not the correct way in which the earth was created. The evolution theory believes that we evolved from animals and adapted to our environment. The creation theory is more biblically based and states that God created the heavens and the earth and formed man out of the dust of the ground.
Some of the concerns still creating controversy include matters dealing with how life began and evolved, relations and sex, and various research methods. Life’s beginnings and the way it evolved have two different points-of-view according to science and religion. The religious belief is the concept of creationism, that all things, including humans, were created and put on the earth by God. The scientific belief is that the universe was created by a concept called the Big Bang, which in simple terms was a giant explosion that created all of the planets, stars, living creatures, etc. Science also believes that humans were not around at the beginning of life, but that they later evolved from various animals after adapting adaptations to help better suit them to the environment.
Creationists however, are working on a biblical timeframe that show that the earth is only hundreds of thousands of years old (Hindson & Caner, 2008). No comparisons can be made between the purpose of identity in Christianity and secular humanism. Secular humanism states that man is no different from plants or animals because we all evolved from the same bacteria. The bible however, makes it clear that man, unlike animals, is made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26). God stated that man would multiply, subdue the earth, and have dominion over animals (Genesis 1:28).
