The Shining Mountain “The Shining Mounting” is a story, which deals with well-known life challenges. In “The Shining Mountain” different life expectations are placed on the shoulders of a young girl. She tries tenaciously to live up to these expectations, because they come from her father. You will not let people, on who you are counting, be disappointed when you cannot meet their demands and expectations. Pangma-La was put into a very difficult situation. Her father was very proud of her and had specific ideas of who his daughter should be. The father had high ambitions for his daughter. He was a famous mountaineer and had named his daughter after the Shining Mountain Pangma-La with the target that they one day should climb the mountain together. He scolded her, because he wanted her to be proud of herself. “Pangma-La was teased about her name. At first she cried, but her father scolded her” The day came, when Pangma-La and her father set out for the Shining Mountain. Pangma-La did not have the slightest need in climbing the mountain, but she did it because of her father. To win her father’s respect it was important not to show weakness or vulnerability. That was why her father refused to let the Sherpa men carry their loads. “We are strong and will climb the mountain alone” If you cannot live up to expectations, you can be tempted to cheat. This is was what happened for Pangma-La. She would not disappoint her father. Instead she went behind his back, because she would not let her father discover what a big disappointment she really was. She would rather put herself in danger and receive advice and help from a stranger, whom she had sworn not to talk to, than disappoint her father. But why did the father had so high expectations to Pangma-La? The father was so proud of Pangma-La, so he believed that they shared the same ambitions. And that is why, he
