A huge reason for members of any group that is involved with terrorism of some kind use kids to their advantage without them realizing what consequences lie at the end of the path or outcome. Along with the psychological recruitment of children, terrorists will know it would be extremely hard for any adult or government forces combatting against their group don’t have the heart to hurt or kill a child and sympathize of what the child has been put through. Most of all, fear and power is the terrorist group’s psychological motivation in getting those children to join their organization and cause. Watching other kids their being beaten severely, electrocuted, and hung will impact them so much, they will only change in the mindset and thought patterns from what type of person they use to be when the group captures
And these are attacks that people will forever remember. They were invasive and lethal and the mission that they were going for went all the way through. Because it made the people panic and made them lose their trust to be in the society and with their government. 9/11 was a terrorist
Genocide is the specific targeting and killing of culture or race of people, which is unethical and wrong. Terrorists perform acts of violence meant to disrupt daily life by causing pain and suffering of others. Rape is a sexual act forced upon someone, which destroys the life of another for the self-gratification of one sick individual. Goodman is correct with his statement about certain things are just wrong and unethical in a society. The examples provided are supported and represent unethical acts by people.
Cults Cults are new “religious” groups that are considered to be unorthodox. Cults devote themselves to a particular person, object, or a set of ideas. The leaders tend to brainwash their followers to the point where they have a powerful control over them. The devotion of the members is so infinite that they are willing to lose their identity, give up their freedom, and even commit the most gruesome murders in the name of their belief. The greatest factor that probably decides whether a group is a cult or a religious organization is criminal behavior such as murder, rape, abduction, and weapons stockpiling.
Many cultures declare war, fight them and fund them in many different ways. Terrorism is a tool of war that is used to strike fear in the opposition. Terrorist use bombs, hijackings and even themselves as weapons. Propaganda is one of the main tools that are used by terrorist. They seek out the weak and use intimidation tactics to coerce individuals to agree and support their cause or they kill them.
The media influences these groups through many ways, such as imitation by creating a deviant role model encouraging “copycat” behaviour. Another way that the media influences crime and deviance is through arousal from watching violent or sexual imagery. Moral Panics are created by the media through labelling. The labels that the media places on groups influence the public creating a moral panic due to the over exaggerated reaction by society
Singer believed that dangerous cults exhibited the dangerous cults would have an authoritarian leader who claimed a special mission and both Manson Family and Heaven’s Gate’s leaders sought to save themselves and their members from the end of the world. Singer’s second characteristics was a dominant leadership style both Manson and Applewhite had complete control over the entire group, enough so to get them to commit murder on themselves and on others. Singer describes the term an “ends to justify the means” as one of the main traits of a dangerous cult and even though the “ends” for the Manson family and Heaven’s gate were different, they both believed that killing was the only way to save themselves from what was to come. Both Manson and Applewhite showed complete allegiance to the group, which increased their follower’s dedication to the cause. It is obvious that Manson held complete ideological and behavioral control over the members because he was able to get them to commit the murders on their own.
However, there are also many ways to defend against them as well. In the book the Party may have controlled all the aspects of peoples lives, but nowadays we choose our government, and we can overthrow them as well if necessary. The Party did use torture machines to punish those who broke the rules. Those machines are considered a bad aspect of technology, and I would have to agree. That is just one way of many that technology could be used for evil.
These so-called "comfort women" are another example of institutionalized sexual violence against women during wartime. Sexual violence is sometimes viewed as a way to destroy male and community pride or humiliate men who cannot "protect" their women. It is also used to silence women who are politically active, or simply inflict terror upon the population at large. Mass rapes may also form part of a genocidal strategy, designed to impose conditions that lead to the destruction of an entire group of people. For example, during the 1990s, the media reported that "rape and other sexual atrocities were a deliberate and systematic part of the Bosnian Serb campaign for victory in the war" in the former
Using material from Item A and elsewhere, assess sociological explanations of the role of the mass media in creating moral panics about crime and deviance. (21) A moral panic is an outrage that is stirred up by the media about a particular group or issue. The role of the mass media is to communicate to a large audience, whether it be written or spoken, though the radio, television, newspapers or the internet; as item A states the news media are one of our main sources of knowledge about crime and deviance. Often the media will create a moral panic surrounding crimes and criminals or deviants. Cohen’s explanation of folk devils and moral panics is highly relevant to understand the role of the mass media in creating moral panics about crime
