Cults Cults are new “religious” groups that are considered to be unorthodox. Cults devote themselves to a particular person, object, or a set of ideas. The leaders tend to brainwash their followers to the point where they have a powerful control over them. The devotion of the members is so infinite that they are willing to lose their identity, give up their freedom, and even commit the most gruesome murders in the name of their belief. The greatest factor that probably decides whether a group is a cult or a religious organization is criminal behavior such as murder, rape, abduction, and weapons stockpiling. Manson had been envisioning an epic race war against the blacks and whites for a while. After hearing the Beatles new album, The White Album, Manson became fanatic with two songs, “Helter Skelter” and “Revolution 9.” Manson become obsessed with the idea that the songs were about the race war he was anticipating and that it was directed specifically to his “Family.” He believed that after the race war, which he now called Helter Skelter, the blacks would win and then turn to The Family to rule their new…show more content…
His instructions were to kill everyone in the residence. In the house was pregnant Sharon Tate, the wife of famed movie director Roman Polanski, and three others, Steven Parent, Wojchiech Frykowsky, and Abigail Folger. Those sent by Manson followed orders and brutally murdered all four. They then proceeded to use Sharon Tate’s blood to write “pig” on the front door. The day after, Manson ordered another set murder, but this time he sent six Family members instead of four. They were sent to the home of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. They proceeded in killing the two even more brutally than they did to the others the night before. War was carved into Leno LaBiana’s abdomens and, in blood, the words “death to pigs,” “rise,” and “healter skelter” were written across the house walls. In the beginning of the investigations, the authorities had made no connection between the Hinman, Tate, and LaBianca murders. Before the LaBianca’s were found, LA County Sherriff’s Department, which had jurisdiction concerning the Hinman case, had informed the LAPD about the similar bloody writings in the Tate and Hinman murders. The LAPD chose to ignore the similarities since they believed that that Tate murders was a drug transaction fallout.
