I do believe that technology has made our lives easier, but it also has made us more dependent on the technology itself. When using the internet for a dictionary you could easily get distracted. Anyone can put anything on the internet, so what you find might not be accurate. Most people find that looking things up on the internet is distracting because you are already on the web so why not check YouTube for a funny video, or update your status on the social network.
Today, the meaning of communication has completely changed. It has become much easier to sustain a relationship through social media and the constant interaction that it provides. In contrast, social media can also prove to destroy relationships. Some people may get so caught up in virtual relationships that they have little to no regard for actual relationships. They may become so used to communicating via internet that they lose basic communication skills and can’t hold a face to face conversation.

The advantages of social media would be to stay in contact with family and friends that are not living close to visit. For example, Facebook is the most viewed media site (Campbell, 2014). It allows people to communicate with people all over the world. Keeping in touch with family via this social media allows pictures to be posted and viewed, videos and other events that would be missed. The disadvantages of social media would be when it’s used inappropriately.

As a result of changing human interactions, these websites lack the true meaning of “real” friendship and, instead, persuade networkers to concentrate on less important details of a person, called virtual friendship. She believes that a real friendship “involves the sharing of mutual interests, reciprocity, trust, and the revelation of intimate details over time” (233). A virtual friendship constitutes the opposite as people now post public messages online in which their personal thoughts, emotions, and feelings are readily available for everyone on their friends list to see. With the option of having an unlimited amount of friends, there is nothing really special about posting these messages for the public to view.
