Because of this, there has been a massive effect on the amount of socialising between friends and family; using technology in online social messaging websites such as Bebo, MSN, Facebook and many more. Through these social messaging websites, more and more people can interact with their friends and family all over the world. An expert professor David Crystal has supported the idea of web-based messages and disagrees with the view that slang and contractions leads to a lower English standard of language. Although this is a benefit to most people, it has been abused by some people by overusing it and different ‘language’ while typing, which cause differentiation in the way we speak and the way we write. Secondly, online dating makes it easier to communicate with others. Online dating websites allows people to say who they are, what they are about, what interests them, and what attracts them to others. Other online dating users use that information and compare it to themselves, to see if they would be a match. It is easier to tell someone who you are by messaging then because sometimes we as people cannot always find the right words to say verbally. Lastly, although online dating is fun, exciting, fast and easy some precautions should be used.
I agree with her in the senses that were losing something human when we substitute technology for face-to-face contact. Online relationships take longer to develop, because you can’t become emotionally attached to someone. In person you know what mood they are in and what’s on their mind, but technology erases that. You also lose visual contact. Recently I started to work at Texas Roadhouse and constantly notice couples on their phones rather then interacting with each other.
In other words, as we get older, we have a harder time with distractions online with the Internet, Facebook, and such. Finally, some people say that using Google will make a person stupid, which is true for some, but others like me, actually use it for research and to learn as well. Experienced Internet users actually showed increased brain activity, with more advanced decision-making skills and complex reasoning. In simple terms, the inexperienced Internet users lagged behind. This is either a win or lose for using Google, it help some, but also fails others.
Professor Gast English 1301 18April 2013 Social Media has or has it not improved communications skills Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo Messenger, and Myspace all of these are examples of social media being used by everyone all over the world. No matter what your age is or what your profession may be almost everyone uses some type of social media, but has it or has it not improved communications skills. My point of view is that it has done both, and in my passage I shall explain why. I believe it has improved communications skills for numerous of reasons. The first reason is the fact that it allows people to reacquaint with old friends and family members, or those who live far away.
For quite some time, the talk has been that social networking is viewed as unnecessary. Social networking seems uncalled for by others, yet over the years it has become more prevalent. In today’s society, many people have chosen to become more involved with online interaction whether it was personal or business. The problem lies in the difference of social networking being considered a friend or a foe. How is it beneficial to today’s way in life?
In many cases the increased communication has brought people who have never met, but who have similar interests, together. Even people who have had social anxiety in the past have shown signs of recovery; they have become more comfortable interacting online and creating new relationships and friendships. It is suggested this is due to there being less inhibitions to overcome the disorder. Keeping up to date with people online, however, is not an everlasting capability: Losing connection to the internet means losing connection to everyone else that is online and therefore whomever you were communicating with at the time. There is also the possibility of people not knowing when enough is enough.
Internet capable technology is extremely affordable, and people across the world are adapting to this new wide world of communication. The world is changing, and experts are divided about the consequences of the fast-growing new ways people have to reach out to each other. Social media is now the most popular way to keep in touch with old friends, new friends, and family. Text messaging, along with its altered lingo, has almost replaced telephone calls and voice mail messages entirely. Business meetings have been replaced by emails or internet based conference applications such as Skype.
Simone de Beauvoir once said, “To lose confidence in one’s body is to lose confidence in oneself.” Social media can be a dangerous place with all the negativity. Teens try to perfect themselves into someone who they are not. Although people may say that social media can inspire teens, social media can represent a toxic mirror for millennials, because it triggers mental health issues, causes insecurities, and can alter someone's appearance. Some people might say that social media is a positive place for teens to get away from their problems; however, it can produce mental health issues for minors. Susie East stated as teens spend more time on social media, the brain can change and grow throughout that time period.
Jena Saucier 3/5/2013 Negatives of Love Online In today’s society, more people are choosing to find love over the internet, whether it be a dating website or Facebook. There are many negative consequences to looking for love online. Such as no visual communication, false identities and how much time it takes up from one’s personal life. One reason why people shouldn’t find love online is because you never really know is on the other side of the screen. There have been cases where teens meet people over the internet and have an online relationship, but when they end up meeting it isn’t exactly who they thought it would be.
