Freedom of expression is essential in establishing the democratic condition and ensuring public rights. Citizens cannot apply their right to vote successfully or take part in public decision-making if they do not have free right of entry to information and ideas and are not able to express their views freely. Freedom of expression is thus not only imperative for individual respect but also to contribution, liability and democracy.
These quotes is relevant to me that in every fault or failure I make I don’t have to be defensive about it but accept these mistakes and to use them as stepping stone to improve myself and change for the better. “Well done is better than well said.” and “Speak little, do much.” [The meaning of these words is fairly easy to understand, but they serve as an excellent reminder to us. The things that we DO for others are so much more important than the things we SAY to others. In other words: “Actions Speak Louder Than Words.” So simple… but so very important to the relationships we are trying to build every day. These quotations are very relevant to me, especially because I am a very expressive or kind of a talkative person.
By having good communication skills it will build good relationships in the work place. Communication works both ways, so it is important to speak clearly in a way that the person listening would understand so it causes no confusions. Describe the factors to consider when promoting effective communication. Some factors to take into consideration when communication would be hand and facial gestures; which could show feelings and emotions. Another factor is the person your speaking to and the level of understanding they have, and if they will be able to understand more technical and complicated words.
Respect is a quality that one does not simply acquire, but takes long periods of time to build up. The author constantly relates one’s respect with their duties throughout this essay. A very insightful view on the topic of respect and how it is built is when Buck states, “responsibility breeds in respect, and when our young people assume responsibility, they deserve our respect” (pg 398). As respect is not given but earned, this is one of the most logical ways of earning it. With this respect comes a stronger conscience as well as greater morals.
2.1 – The most basic method for communicating information and knowledge is verbal communication. This is effective, but has certain drawbacks – it’s hard to monitor who has received the information, and almost impossible to ensure that our large and diverse membership all are aware of what they need to know. Written information is much easier to track and, if displayed correctly, can ensure that all reasonable efforts have been made to communicate the information to a wide range of people. 2.2 – To select the most appropriate technique and method you must first identify what the information is and how complex it may be – the more complicated it is, the more likely you are to need some form of written or non-verbal information. You also need to identify who needs to know this information, how many people you need to reach, and how important it is that they receive it.
By fully supporting service users with specific communication needs you are able to support their rights. 3. It is difficult and frustrating to communicate effectively when there is background noise, therefore arranging the environment to aid communication is very important step to achieving effective communication with service users. As a carer you should arrange the individual’s environment to facilitate effective communication and
Personal Grooming and Presentation In the uniformed public services, where members of the public may be looking for you to help or guidance, it is particularly important that you are of smart appearance. People for impressions and opinions about us from the way we appear to them, so if you want to create the right impression it is important that you are correctly presented. Punctuality In order to run efficiently and effectively, organisations have to keep to tight schedules and this means being governed by time. In the public services punctuality is vital so that, at any time, someone can say where, when and how many people are on duty. At the beginning of a shift, public service personnel are briefed about any major issues that may have arisen; for example, police officers would be kept updated about a missing child.
Without accurate information the project may have time and resources wasted on items that are not important and important aspects of the project may be forgotten. To gather information there must be good communication. Having open and organized forms of communication is important. Communication is the key to any successful project or plan. In order to achieve good communication it must be structured and have someone facilitate and direct the discussion.
Throughout the book the author revealed plenty of useful information put into action in approving are listening skills to be better listeners. My actions consist of be more conscious in my listening skills and continue to control the negative emotions that sometimes arise that prevent us from listening to others. It is important to keep intact my emotion until I have a full understanding and clarity of the message being relied to me. I will remember to steer away from being defensive, because at the same time I can be unknowingly attacking others around me that loves me. With every opportunity of listening I will be mindful of creating a safe environment where clarity, understanding, and listening can take place effectively.
To come to an understanding and to stir action on a subject it is important to be friendly, to understand where they are coming from, to instill empathy, and to work towards a common goal. Doing all this with a calm voice is most effective. King brought a great awareness to the problem and a light for the future. To continue on we should address the issue bold and strong like King did but also in the friendly manner in which he set his voice. To yell and point fingers and call names will get us nowhere.
