In utilizing your chain of command this will keep you from getting in trouble and receiving corrective training as well as getting your issue handled quicker. By having a chain of command shows who is in charge from the lowest to the highest level. If there was no chain of command then everyone would think they are in charge. For example, during wartime battles would have not been won.
We were also told that being early is being on time, and being on time is being late. With that I understood that being late was unacceptable. We agreed to come to the academy and it was understood that we would at the very least be on time. So being on time shows that we are people of our word. If someone can’t trust you to simply be on time, then how can they trust you with much more important issues such as deciding what to do during a life threatening or arrest situation.
It is also important to be on time to show that you respect your superior’s orders. Being late shows a lack of respect and responsibility. I will always do my best to have the up most respect for my superiors, whether I agree with their decision or not. It is my job as a United States Soldier to do as I’m asked. Being on time is one of the most important things I have to do on a daily basis to show respect for my authority.

This was mainly down to their naivety, ineptness and how out of touch they really were. By not mustering for work on time, I was placing my supervisor in a difficult situation. In addition, I am responsible for knowing where to be and when to be there. If that means calling my supervisor or the watch, the night before then that is what I need to do. Being punctual, for any member of the armed forces, is extremely important to the defense of the United States of America. Dependability, accountability, consistency and discipline are all completely related to being on time.
As a Noncommissioned Officer, I am well aware of what disrespect is and looks like. It is completely unprofessional of me to disrespect another member of the Corps of Noncommissioned Officers. We are supposed to be working together. I must enforce the standards that are in place. However, I am unable to enforce the standards if I cannot follow the standards.
It may seem morbid, but consider that in an important position, such as an infantryman, than their job not only requires punctuality for the successful completion of a mission, but also showing his brothers in arms that he is capable of being dependable and one can even steal time itself. The infantryman has many responsibilities in his daily life and being punctual to meet his ‘hard times’ is one of them. A hard time is a pre-set time that the infantryman is given to be at a prearranged area with the right equipment and uniform. Being on time daily instills discipline in the infantryman. Punctuality shows that he is adept at displaying competence in his skills.
The Army Values cannot be practiced independently of one another. All Values must be utilized together as a whole. Missing one Value would nullify the rest. Living up to the Army Values each day is what keeps the Army moving forward. Without Soldiers applying “LDRSHIP” to their work and personal life the Army would screech to a halt.
