The impact of reality TV on teens Fame, money and beauty are just some of the things we see everyday on our televisions. Any ordinary person can become a celebrity through a Reality Television Show. The media just shapes these people as they like. They add what they want and take what they don’t from the real person. Celebrities in reality television shows act in an exaggerated way in order to stand out and have the viewer’s approval. They become characters of a show. Eventhough it might seem as if they are acting real because they have the good and bad moments, it is mostly a put together show. Some things are altered to make the show more interesting. Teens as they mature and grow to be adults, watch television. Therefore, the media plays a big part on their development. A great percentage of the viewers of reality shows are teens. An explanation for this is that teenagers find such shows to be very entertaining and fun to watch. What they don’t realize is that they are unconsciously mimicking the behavior they see on the shows. At that age, young teens are trying to figure out who they are and watching this shows may portray an unrealistic way to live. Also, the negativity presented can confuse teenagers by making it acceptable to do bad things. A teenager can identify himself/herself with one of the celebrities and will compare themselves to them. A lot of the time they will want to copy everything that celebrity does rather than focusing on their own persona and try to be themselves. Reality television shows tend to focus on the negative aspects of life and add drama to make them more interesting for the viewers. We see this through the celebrities of our favorite shows.
