The accepted basic role of advertising is to provide the consumers with the right amount of information regarding a certain product or services. However, it has been often alleged that advertising is causing a negative social impact by playing with the emotions of general public and enticing then into buying products that are not necessary to them. I strongly agree with this viewpoint for a number of reasons. Firstly, advertisements play an essential role in creating an image of a product in the minds of consumers. Research findings suggest that emotions and feelings play a decisive role in purchasing, triggered by seeing the product or upon exposure to a well-crafted promotional message. Commercial advertisers often seek to generate increased consumption of their products or services through "branding," which involves the repetition of an image or product name in an effort to associate certain qualities with the brand in the minds of consumers. Moreover, the buying behavior of consumers can be easily manipulated through the use of subliminal messages, or celebrity endorsements . Such techniques are used in order to persuade the consumers they need the product which is being advertised. The focus is more on the benefits, which consumer will get from that product, rather than the product itself. Consequently, the individual will be tempted to purchase certain products or services he would normally have no use for. However, advertising can also have a positive impact on society. Public service advertisements are often the first things considered when people discuss the positive effect of advertisements. For instance, many public service announcements run messages about health, safety and national security, thus generating awareness among public . Taking everything into account, I am inclined to believe that although it can include certain positive aspects, advertising has mainly a negative social
