It reminded me of all the things I used to worry about as a 11 to 14-year-old and how the worrying doesn’t stop, but the things you’re worrying about just change. I enjoyed the realistic banter between Margaret and her new best friend (and neighbour) Nancy, and the challenges of dealing with
I was scared because I didn’t know anybody besides a few uncles. I knew that in USA people speak another language but I was just staring to learn it on my country and it was hard. I just didn’t feel ready to meet United States yet. However I knew that I didn’t have another option, so I decide to try my best and make my parents proud of me. Some of my goals were to learn English, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to communicate and succeed as an immigrant.
My parents came home that night and told me what Mrs. Brandt’s concern was. They told me that I would be going to Sylvan Learning Center to get extra tutoring on reading and comprehending. I told my parents that what Mrs. Brandt had told them was all a lie and that I would not be attending Sylvan. They sat me down and told me the importance of comprehending what I read. They said that if I did not increase my comprehension level I would struggle in literature the rest of my life.
In my opinion, these students are not the only ones who will learn through this journey. Erin and the many students’ lives she and they impact will inspire others like me, even if my fear is only writing. 3. Plan for writing: The challenge Erin is faced with is not only as a new High School English teacher, yet her confrontations supposed “un-teachable, at-risk students. I will expose most of the personal diary entries written by almost all of the students, and their past and present dilemmas as they go through the four years at Wilson High School, in Long beach CA.
She is spending more time at hr real dad’s house and only goes home 2-3 a wk for a change of clothing. Clearly there is a clash of racial differences in the home and hr step dad is determined not to give up on Shanna but Shanna is clearly not interested in her 'white family and says that she wants to leave the house because she feels as though she is not in touch with hr culture and identity. The aspect of development that is affecting her is the lack of culture and identity in the home which she feels is a major missing part of her life and has been ever since hr mum passed
In the end, he would give her the money because he wanted Sunday’s dinner. Then she had to rush out of their home and try to buy food quickly. Eveline worked to keep the house together, as she had promised her mother and to keep the kids in school. In the text it states, “It was hard work — a hard life — but now that she was about to leave it she did not find it a wholly undesirable life.” (Paragraph 5, line 17) My second reason that Eveline could've left was because her father was an alcoholic and because he treated both Eveline and her mother with disrespect and cruelty. Because Eveline was a girl, her father started
Another thing with text messages is that when you tell her you are leaving your house and forget to text her when you arrived to school, she will do the same thing until you finally text her back. She will tell you that she has been very worried and that you need to answer your phone because that's why you have one. Then she is usually annoyed. Which is what you want of course! Now another way to annoy your mom is to swerve all over the road.
This passage is relatable to my life because although the women are wished luck in certain cultures she can be cast off by her family into a new world in a new house and style of living. A like college life for me I have not been able to ask my parents for help all too often but rather live my life by myself with my own money and experiences. Bateson sat in on a day of preschool for her daughter. While at school she realizes the big culture difference between the groups of humans when the teacher throws away all of the drawings done by the children during their drawing time. This passage shows the huge difference between a cultures that rewards creativity in children to not showing any concern in their creativity at all.
When you let go of something dear to you, as much as you want to feel depressed, you shouldn’t. Sacrifice is something to be proud about, for regretting it only leads to a life of disappointment. I remember one weekend I was invited to a friend’s party. The night of the party my mother asked me to stay home, and help clean the house for the arriving relatives. Although I wanted to go to the party, I decided to stay home and help clean the house.
For instance, she is looking forward to the moment when the narrator can be fending for himself, and when she realize its Saturday she quickly tells him he can’t be in the house because Dan is coming. Dan is Kay’s boyfriend, and Dan surely doesn’t like the narrator, since he has to leave the house every time he comes over, yet another sign that his mother doesn’t care about him, because reasonable parents would never date a person, who hate their kids. We also get an insight where the narrator called his mother a whore and she hit him with a bottle. Later in the story, Kay realizes what an effect Dan had on the narrator and decided to end it with Dan, she also finds sketches of the graffiti the narrator has been working on, and realized it was her son, who was the one committing crime in the city. Still Kay takes all the blame for misdirection of their
