April 23, 2015 The Effects of Pollution and Global Warming on The Earth Global warming, pollution, and greenhouse gases are all controversial topics that have been written about, studied, and discussed for several years. But what does global warming, pollution, and greenhouse gases have to do with you? Well, global warming is the gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere, which is caused by pollution and greenhouse gases. Pollution and greenhouse gases are any type of harmful or poisonous substance that is put out into the world. “People think the Earth is so big that we cannot hurt it” (Gore 456). But the most vulnerable part of the Earth is its atmosphere, which is what pollution and greenhouse gases affect the most and where humanity does the most damage. People are the cause of global warming, pollution, and greenhouse gases. Just by driving a car to work, to school, to the gym, or anywhere, you exert pollution and greenhouse gases into the air. “Fossil fuel combustion, particularly as it occurs in motor vehicles, has been identified as the LARGEST contributor to air pollution in the WORLD” (Victoria). Cars give off more than enough pollution to damage the Earth’s atmosphere. There are two types of pollution that cars discharge. First exhaust emission, which have dangerous gases in the fumes such as “carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, hydrocarbons and particulates.”(Victoria). The second is evaporative emissions that are released into the atmosphere without being burnt. Another way that humanity helps contribute to global warming, pollution, and greenhouse gases is by using nonrenewable resources, otherwise know as fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural gas. By burning these fossil fuels humans release overwhelming amounts of carbon dioxide into the air. Now that raises the question, “What can one do to help
