The Disconnect Of Postmodernism Modernism, as you may know it, is an art movement and is the radical rendition in the art world, whether of subjects or of materials or media used. Certain artworks offer certain styles depending on the artist. To those who are learned it will be quite easy to connect the certain style to its originator and there can be others to follow suit in the same style. Postmodernism, however, is not limited to the art world but encompasses everything like literature, film, buildings, business, fashion, dance, etc. While modernism connects with primitivism, another art movement, postmodernism disconnects from the traditional and encourages uniqueness and individuality, more like making the futuristic a reality. It is a constant improvement of what used to be, and adding more, that what used to be, no longer is. From the writings of Fredric Jameson on Postmodernism, or The Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism, and of Sharon Mahealani Rowe on We Dance For Knowledge, we shall see how postmodernism disconnects from the original and traditional and how history weakens to oblivion. When you see women in grass skirts and leis and dancing to the hula beat, it is no mistake to connect it with Hawaii. The dance has been appreciated all over the world, used in talent shows and contests and even merged with modern beat. With ballet, a tutu outfit, tights and ballet shoes adorn the dancers that glide on the stage where the affluent are the usual spectators and admirers of the show. The rigidity and exactness of the steps, the more difficult then appear to perform, are the measuring guides to say whether the performance of the hula or ballet are awesome.
