The Boys and Girls Club of America The Boys and Girls Club has been around for more than one hundred and fifty years to help kids reach their full potential. The Boys and Girls Clubs of America had its beginnings in 1860 with three women in Hartford, Conneticut : Mary Goodwin, Alice Goodwin and Elizabeth Hammersley. These three women have started such a great thing in America and the organization has blown up over the last fifteen decades. The boys and girls club main purpose is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The four thousand clubs that are set up around America, which serve over four million kids are there to help them reach this mission. Each club is personalized for each community and specializes in the needs that the kids in that community need to succeed. The clubs provide a safe place for kids during non-school hours during the summer, which are ran by paid professionals, to keep the kids in the club to stay on the right path instead of being out on the streets and get on the wrong path. Also they keep kids from being home alone while their parents are at work during the summer and after school. At each club it gives the kids an opportunity to play, learn and laugh with kids that are the same age as they are who want to reach the same goals as they do. I think that this organization has a great goal for kids and to help kids stay on the right track in their life. When kids are left at home alone they are more prone to start adventuring into crime and drugs. Most kids that are into drugs and crime are left home alone while their parents are at work. What the Boys and Girls clubs do is to help the youth become responsible, caring citizens and acquire skills for participating in these programs that the Clubs offer. They also develop
