For my Senior Project, I chose to volunteer at A.M. Winn’s Summer S.T.A.R.T. program as a program leader. I attended A.M. Winn from Pre-School-6th grade and started going to the S.T.A.R.T. afterschool program as early as third grade. I always felt the need to give back to the program because it was a program was run by volunteers, volunteering their free time to give kids something to do afterschool other than cause mischief being that is wasn’t in the best of neighborhoods. During middle school I also did similar volunteer work there to give me something extra to do afterschool on my free time. My overall accomplishment in doing this project is really to give back to the community from which I came from. Before the program starts I will go through a basic training giving me the skills I need to assist a program leader in running a class. As a volunteer, I will be observed by my mentor and other program leaders in my skills of helping to run a class and completing tasks assigned to me. I will not be asked to pay for anything as everything is provided for me. I am aware I only need 15 hours of active participation for this project but, I will be attending as a volunteer six hours a day, two out of four days a week. The S.T.A.R.T program is scheduled to start Monday June 18 and will continue till Thursday July 26. For my Senior Project presentation, I will provide a completed and signed off log recording the number of the hours and days I volunteered during this summer program. I will also provide pictures of me completing assigned tasks and assisting the kids in their needs as I will do so with the permission of the each student’s guardian. This is not so much a stretch for me as it is more of a challenge. I’m treating this summer program almost as a job. As we grow older, we learn we have to take on responsibilities in order to show that we are ready for what life
