Faith Claypool Mr. Normansell Engl. 101, Online 22 Sept. 2014 The Attributes of Friendship Friendship is one of the most treasured relationships we establish in our lifetime. True friends are those who give us dependability, council, and companionship even when they see our negative side. Sometimes we think we will be fine by ourselves; because a dream is a wish we make all alone. It is easy to feel like we do not need help from anyone, but it is hard to do things on our own. We later realize that we need help and we need our friends by our side. One of the first important attributes of friendship is dependability. Individuals with boundaries such as physical, emotional, and mental guard-rails are the ones we need in our lives the most; because they are the ones that do not get taken advantage of. When friends work together they feel a strong sense of personal worth. It has been known that we achieve more working together than what we would working alone. We can rely on are true friends if we need comfort, money, advice and even help. Friendship is a two-way street. The responsibility of a true friendship cannot be heavier on one side and not on the other one. One person cannot keep receiving items, or material things , or even just advice without giving back in return. It has to be an even trade, a give and receive method so no one feels left out. Aside from dependability, council is another important attribute of friendship that I value. Another important attribute of friendship is council. We trust our friends to speak the truth even if it hurts, because we know they do not mean to hurt us. A trusted friend will not purposefully cause harm to another individual, they do not steal ideas, your boyfriend, exploit contacts, or alienate another person's life. They listen to what you tell them. They respond to the conversation at hand
