Al O`Brien argues his standpoints against kelley fox in this epic battle of the initiatives, remember that, "the number of valid signatures of legal voters required shall be equal to eight percent of the votes cast for the office of governor at the last gubernatorial election"(washington state constitution). Voters are against initiative I-1183 for political, social and economical reasons. Kelly Fox, president of the Washington state council of firefighters, state “initiative I-1183`s greater access to liquor would harm public safety.” (fox). Teen drinking causes more deaths than all other drugs combined every year. Yet I-1183 allows more than four times as many liquor outlets which would result in more teen drinking and more crime.…show more content…
as a result, the money states earn from being out of the liquor retail business could be used for healthcare, education and protecting the environment.the initiative supports political growth as well. obrien states, "under 1183, Washington would join 42 other states that allow consumers to purchase alcohol from licensed grocery or retail stores."(O`Brien). this will create lesser tax passed onto consumers when the state does not need taxpayers money to run liquor stores. economic growth will also therefore result from this initiative being passed. O`Brien states "with 1183`s passage, the city of seattle will receive an estimated 25.7 million in new revenues over 6 years."(O`Brien) these revenues would be put to building parks and other economic activities and
