Technology: Harmful or Helpful The world has become in touch with all sorts of technology, especially television, video games, and the internet. Do these ways of technology dumb humans down or do they help humans to become smarter? Technology, in our culture now is beginning to become very popular, everyone is participating in using these devices to make our everyday lives easier; it just makes life more convenient. We see that technology can either help or harm the brain development of children, depending on how the child is using these ways of technology. Technology has really become a huge feature in society today. The uses of video games, internet, and television have affects on the human brain. These affects may either be negative, positive, or a mix between both. Some of these negative affects are that those who spend an abundant amount of time using either the internet, playing video games, or watching television tend to ruin their social lives and can become more agitated. For example, teens love technology and Amy Goldwasser states that, “33 million Americans [are] fluent in texting, e-mailing, blogging, IM’ing and constantly amending their profiles on social network sites – which on average, 30 of their friends will visit every day, hanging out and writing about themselves” (Goldwasser 237). We have become obsessed with technology in that we are fluent in all the aspects. Younger generations tend to now rely on technology to become their social interaction with others instead of being face to face hanging out. By doing this it messes with the brain, thinking that is how interaction is supposed to happen, then when one does become face to face with another they become socially awkward. This tends to be more of a problem with kids today rather than adults. Technology can have a positive effect as well, in that one can learn from the news that
