Are video games bad? As the graphics and story lines of video games become more complex and realistic, parents have become worried over the violence that their children are bearing witness to when playing the latest and greatest games. Have your parents ever told you not to play video games too much because they are bad for you? Probably, but have they ever given you a detailed reason? Doubt it. Video games, whether it be on computers or on mobile, are preferred by many in today's generation as a form of entertainment. Video games are not only a form of entertainment and tool for time killing, but also showcase how far technology has come and how quickly it continues to evolve. An example would be the upcoming Need for Speed game which utilises Physics Based Rendering technology. In terms of its graphical and visual capabilities, the game looks simply photorealistic. In addition, video games also provide intriguing and exciting plots require problem-solving abilities and can improve a person's awareness. Some of the mental skills enhanced by video games include: following instructions, logically solving problems, hand-eye coordination, planning and resource management, tracking of multiple shifting variables and accuracy. These are only a few of many mental skills enhanced by video games according to cognitive researcher Daphne Bavalier and other authors specialising in raising a "smart" child. There are many benefits in playing video games, however, there are two that can be considered most beneficial when playing video games: they reduce stress and they promote exercise on the mind.
