Summary of Seven Day Countdown During the 1990’s the process of how to successfully conduct the efficiently successful opening of a new hotel was fine-tuned and modernised into what is now termed the ‘Seven Day Countdown’ period, which offered increased standardisation leading to a broader and more fluent management process for new hotels. James McBride is the general manager of the Ritz-Carlton, Washington D.C. and, due to new-venture pressure, was tasked in reassessing the Ritz-Carlton’s famous ‘Seven Day Countdown’ programme for a high-pressure, intensive training and educational program involving all new staff and employees of a particular Ritz-Carlton hotel. The ‘Seven Day Countdown’ has been a crucial component in maintaining the Ritz-Carlton brand image of excellence in service, style and efficiency for many years. So, what exactly does the ‘Seven Day Countdown’ entail and how does the Ritz-Carlton create "ladies and gentlemen" in only 7 days? The Seven Day Countdown has been part of the Ritz-Carlton hotels for the last two decades whereby it has been within the program of opening every new hotel within the Ritz-Carlton chain of hotels. The creation of the “ladies and gentlemen” by Ritz-Carlton within seven days was achieved through an intensive training that was conducted by the most experienced trainers and managers from 23 countries. Day One and Two During the seven day program, employees spend the first two whole days becoming familiar with the Ritz-Carlton’s individual set of cultures and values as it is imperative that all employees understand just what Ritz-Carlton stands for and what their high expectations actually mean.
