Even though, Okonkwo develops a fatherly love for Ikemefuna, he goes to Imekefuna's killing and stabs him to death only because he doesn't want to be viewed as weak. Okonkwo holds great admiration and love for his family in his heart which he never admits to. Although you see an exposed emotion of care from him that he never admits to when Okonkwo feels anxious after the priestess takes Enzima to the caves and Ekwefi follows. Achebe tells Okonkwo does not sleep at all, when Enzima is taken away because he “[feels] very anxious”, and “becomes gravely worried” (p 112) In conclusion, though Okonkwo has a softer side to him, he doesn’t let anyone to be exposed to that to protect himself. Okonkwo has one main rule in his life to not do or say anything that shows weakness or failure, which leads to him being very stubborn.
Atticus is defending Tom because he knows that he was falsely accused. Scout and Jem have to fight to keep calm. Scout is able to keep calm through all the teasing and backbiting because she has promised something to her father and does not like to let him down. Scout has faith in Atticus because she knows that if he fights, it's for the good always. She has no racial prejudice against Tom but her growth is almost incredible as she comes to understand all the prejudice against her father's client and that he will lose the case simply because Tom is black.
Ben has taken it upon himself to be the pillar of the family. Knowing this, it does not come as much of a surprise when the reader learns that Ben decides not to tell anyone about the blood disease that is killing him, for Ben does not want to put any more stress onto his loved ones than there already is. In addition, Ben is stubborn. This is evident when the family doctor, Doctor Wagner, tries to persuade him to take treatment for his disease, but to no avail; and when he tries to get a street named after Malcolm X, even when his friends and social studies teacher tell him how ridiculous his project is. Furthermore, Ben is extremely brave; imagine trying to hide such a great and terrible secret from your loved ones for almost a year, imagine how much courage that would take.
Even though his own brother committed the sin, he knew it was wrong no matter who it was: "Maybe a jury will cut him loose. I wont. By god I wont” (143). Knowing most of Wes’s family is against the fact that Frank should not be punished; Wes puts his emotional feelings aside and grows up. Just by one fault by the closest man in his life, Wes realizes he has changed in better ways as things have gotten more complicated: “ My father stood for moral absolution ” (144).

Rev Parris is not so much worried for the children as he is for himself. Rev Parris is a very strict Christian man, he is smart and fearful of the Salem people. Rev Parris requests the deed to the house as he believes the people of Salem might take it from him, he makes clear how he feel persecuted when he and Proctor are arguing. He decides who is wrong and right and is like the law on the ranch. Along with her telling him that he should not call himself “The Misfit” because he is a good man at heart. Both of those are attempts to save her life, which is what most people would do in real- life in such a situation. Bailey is a typical father, not directing any attention when he feels his mother is talking non-sense about “The Misfit’s” escape from prison while reading the sports section of the newspaper. Bailey did not want to detour to look for the old house in the first place. However, it was pressure from his mother and his children that lead him to detour off-road to look for this old house that his mother so much wanted to see and that his children were pestering him about.
John Q. used some violence on his hostages in the attempt to help his son get the heart transplant. (Letter to Birmingham; page 214, paragraph 9) Nonviolent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and foster such a tension that a community which has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue. Martin Luther King Jr. would also see that it was unjust for the hospital to release Michael knowing that he would die without proper care. I truly believe that in this movie John Q’s actions were those of one whom was taught to protect their family no matter what. Morally, John’s actions are justifiable.
