Steven Reinemund – CEO of PepsiCo A manager must be a spokesperson for the company they supervise, and release important decisions and information to their employees and the public. Steven Reinemund, former CEO of PepsiCo stated on his LinkedIn™ profile that, “I thrive on the opportunity to take a Steve Jobs/Apple approach to ESTABLISHING what customers want and need by reading trends and anticipating needs, not just following and optimizing the competition’s products” (LinkedIn™). By stating that, Steven feels that customer satisfaction is very important in running a business and that by overachieving the customers want and needs, he is being an effective CEO. Being a great CEO takes a lot more than just being able to keep customers happy; it requires keeping employees happy also. Steven was not only good with customer satisfaction, but he was also a great interpersonal manager also. As a figurehead, he acted as a social leader within PepsiCo and was able to perform social duties outside of work without displaying authority. In other words, Steven was on the same level as all of the employees, he wasn’t a boss. As an interpersonal manager, Steven instructed employees to participate in events and activities outside his company. “He organized fifty employees to participate in the New York City Marathon that was held in memory of a co-workers brother. He hosted a pep rally for them, a dinner at his home, and another dinner at the ESPN Zone in New York City” (Reference For Business). Reinemund was the fourth chief executive of PepsiCo, a global company that generated about $27 billion in sales in 2003. He brought PepsiCo to the levels of growth on whatever he worked on.
