Quentin carries around a suitcase stuffed with books wherever he goes and finds excuses to get out of gym class. He is excitable and often confounds the other members and townspeople with his advanced vocabulary when jumpy. Jimmy "O'Dell" Carroll: is small and excitable, the most emotional member of the group. His father drove the town garbage truck, allowing O'Dell access to many useful items, frequently scrounged to further the group's efforts. He is always scheming ways of making money, from the failed iron scrap attempt—which took an entire summer, yielded a net loss of one dollar, not counting the destruction of borrowed equipment, and almost killed Sonny—to the profitable harvesting of ginseng.
A Fathers Impact “It is easier for a father to have children than for children to have a real father” (John XXIII). The stories “Powder” and “Reunion” have many similarities and differences. The short story “Powder,” by Tobias Wolff is about a father who got to spend quality time skiing with his son after he fought for the privilege to see him. Though he had a limited amount of time to spend with his son, for they had to be back at his wife’s house for Christmas Eve dinner, he learned to savor every minute he got with his son. “Reunion” by John Cheever is a short story about Charlie who hasn’t seen his father since his parents’ divorce.

This disgrace carries on throughout the story as Franklin is embarrassed and uncomfortable working at a fast food restaurant because of his high qualifications. He is confronted by a man in the bathroom whom the author assumes thinks that he got his girlfriend pregnant and never graduated high school. It is clear that Franklin is very self-conscious as he states, “I want to tell him that I'm in the top 5 percent of students at my college, that I am two semesters away from graduating, and that I'm on my way to grad school to get a Ph.D. in English literature” (25). In the beginning Jerry is a selfish immature child, as every child is but as the story progresses he becomes more and more mature. As a young boy Jerry was wild and had only one care in the world collecting his cowboy cards! It seemed like every time he had a bit of money he was down at the store purchasing or trading cards with friends. It was an addiction! His older brother even asked him for money to buy dad something nice for father’s day he was hesitant and only have him 1/5 of his earnings, only a nickel because he wanted new cards.
Many years after his father’s death, Truman sees his father in town while going to work. Simultaneously, two bystanders remove his father from the set on account that he is not supposed to be there. The shock of seeing his supposed, dead father being forcefully removed by strangers causes Truman to begin to question reality. Truman has a flashback to his school days where he sees a girl and instantly falls in love with her. Unfortunately, she is not the girl with whom the producers want Truman to fall in love with.
