Sports in Nature For this project, I have chosen a scene in nature that speaks to my love of sports and the outdoors. I have found rich enjoyment in experiencing nature in all its various ways, shapes and forms. The action in which I have discovered to be the most fulfilling when dealing with nature is playing sports. Golf is one sport what allows you to experience and take in many aspects of nature. The holes in which are played on a golf course contain elements which vary with location. These elements include: shrubbery, sand, water, and possible rocky areas. This is why I have decided to recreate the scene of a golf hole which depicts not only the sport but nature as well. I have selected this particular hole not only because it is one of the best holes I have ever played, but also the magnificent scenery it contains. The combination of the shrubbery, pond, and sand bunkers come together in harmony. My goal is to recreate this scene from memory to the best of my abilities. I have experimented with colored pencils to find the most promising way to display the texture and layout of this artwork. Various colors will be used to compose the different elements of nature in this image. A light green will be used to create the putting green; I will use a continuous back and forth motion so that the pencil does not leave the canvas, therefore giving the appearance of a smooth surface. Darker greens will be applied to form the surrounding shrubbery; I will employ the technique of shadowing to give the appearance of multiple trees and bushes. A light brown will be used to complete the sand bunkers along the putting green; I will use a circular motion to give the sand a hazy look and a dotting technique to finish.
