The authors Bradley John Monsma and William L. Fox share many intensions when it comes to human’s expression of nature. In each of their essays there is a main concept of human expansion into nature to seek a new perspective to gain appreciation for the beauty of our surroundings, and to comprehend whether we have a responsibility to step in, but both Monsma and Fox use different tools to provide the reader with this idea. While Monsma uses imagination to get a new perspective on nature Fox goes beyond that and uses a true physical connection with nature. In each essay gaining a new perspective on our surroundings helps us build a better relationship with the environment and each author portrays that using the same idea, but have a different way of proving their point. While in my own experience I found it extremely difficult to just use my imagination to try and find a new perspective on things.
I believe more in respecting everything including people and nature. Rednecks are usually brought up by there parents to be respectful. We try to stay strong to our teachings and remember the words of our elders. Respecting nature is a great deal to this subculture because we love it so much. If I get the choice of being inside or outside, my choice is always outside.
Lindsay Murphy Murphy 1 Weinberg Honors English 12-26-11 Elements of Nature in The Natural Since Aesop’s time, natural elements have been used for omens and symbols to tell stories. Natural elements have been used to tell what’s going to happen in life. Running water symbolizes the beginning of something, fire the end. Hills or mountains show that obstacles might be coming, a valley shows a good period is on its way. There are probably thousands of elements of nature that symbolize something or other, but in the book The Natural by Bernard Malmud, the elements of nature that are used: flowing water, thunder and lighting, and trees, prove a theme that is consistent throughout the book: nature is on the side of good people.
I am going to analyze and explain the concept of how and why authors use descriptions of natural scenery and landscapes to depict the inner lives of characters. I am also interested in how this type of description is different than a conventional, generic approach along with how it delivers the moral of the story more easily. The text I am focusing on is "Hills Like White Elephants" by Ernest Hemmingway. The symbolism in this text is extremely interesting as it is questionable to consider certain symbolic connections that are congruent with the relationship of the two people. I plan on discovering and revealing possible connections between symbolisms, how the story conveys it's meaning through these symbolisms and why this method of describing the characters attributes can be much more effective than a dull, ineffective direct approach.
Response Paper 2 It is critical to analyze how the authors, Thomas Thwaites view nature throughout The Toaster Project and Raymond Williams in the essay Ideas of Nature challenges people’s views overtime, and how human’s relationship to nature is influenced by human history. According to Raymond Williams There is not one clear analytical opinion on nature from the past as it is complicated and challenging to discuss. Nature is a world of discoveries, everyone discover it differently relating to their field of study and understanding of nature. Some people define “nature” as a word; some people understand nature by its means and contents such as trees, birds, and etc, some compare and contrast nature, mankind and property, however all these views are shaped by external influences of humans on one another and to the nature. In The Toaster Project, Thwaites starts his project from reversing an old toaster with existing technology.
His photographs of the landscape overwhelm the viewer with beauty and awe. They show that true power is natural. The exhibition, Natural Power, is to not only show the beauty of the landscape, but also its untamable nature; its power. Even though it is an exhibit about nature, it can also be looked at as a tribute to Ansel Adams, for without his conservation efforts, some of this beauty might have been overtaken by human expansion. Though he may not be alive, his vision and love lives on through his photography for us to appreciate, learn from, and enjoy.
The descriptive language, and confidence he uses in his speech is really what makes this something to be remembered. Chief Seattle uses many metaphors and references to nature throughout his entire speech. He becomes wiser, more respectful to his land, and deeply connected with nature. When Chief Seattle says, “My words are like the stars that never change” the reader feels that Chief Seattle is more than just a human. He seems more like a wise sage that has been around for countless lifetimes.
Holly Smith Mrs. Eddington AP English Language and Composition 8-14-14 Persuasive Photography Photography is one of the many forms of art in the world, that expresses our feelings and attitudes of the land around us. Photography captures the magnificence of structure, form, and integrity that the Earth provides us, and leaves us with an everlasting reminder of what used to be. Photography does not limit our understanding of the world because we can capture evidence of what things used to be and bring them back in the future to tell what life used to be like before the current time. In photography, you can bring forth more information to further strengthen our intelligence of things that we were, possibly, not aware of before. Photography can also provide evidence against criminals, as it can capture evidence or their crime, which can help put them behind bars to keep our public safe from wrongdoings.
Julianne Santos February Vacation Transcendentalism: Nature Everyone has their own beliefs on what brings out peoples “better self” causing them to be in harmony with the larger world. For each groups of people, there are many different areas where someone can be brought out to be their better human being. For example one may find that the ocean is a sanctuary where they can truly in peace. Others may may say that they find the wild, deep forest of the mountains helps to bring them to their better being. Some may find that they're peaceful and in harmony with nature by just stepping out into their backyard.
The picture is an outdoors scene in nature. It is a nature picture a lot of things we experience in life relate to nature. There are a lot of things that we run into in our day to day life that have something to do with nature. So that is why I chose to do a picture that has to do with nature. The title is pretty self-explanatory.
