Assessment 2- Jayde Rogan Manage Programs that Promote Personal Effectiveness Cause and extent of the identified health issue According to Diabetes Australia approximately 280 Australians a day develop diabetes and it is estimated that more than half the cases of type 2 diabetes go undiagnosed. They state that by 2031 3.3 million Australians will have type 2 diabetes and the financial costs will be significant. Their study found that type 2 diabetes will cost $10.3 billion, With productivity losses at $4.1 billion. This is a substantial amount of cost for workplaces, so it is in their best interest to support their workers towards a healthier lifestyle to reduce loss of productivity. Diabetes Australia found that approximately every day 280 Australians develop the disease diabetes.
In the United Kingdom cystic fibrosis is a very common disease, and the cystic fibrosis trust claims that around 8,000 people suffer from it in the United Kingdom. The cystic fibrosis trust also claims that over two million people in the United Kingdom are carriers of the gene that causes the disease. They estimated that around one in every twenty five people carry this defective gene. In the United Kingdom causasian people with cystic fibrosis have a life expectancy of around thirty one years old. But with a baby born today with cystic fibrosis the chances are that they could live much longer, due to the improvements which are being made medically.
Doctors have found biological connections between fat, insulin, and the high blood sugar levels that define the disease. The CDC estimates that 55 percent of adult diabetics are obese, significantly more than the 31 percent prevalence of obesity in the general population. And as obesity has become more common, so, too, has diabetes, suggesting that one may cause the other. Yet the critics dispute claims that diabetes is soaring (even among children), that obesity is the cause, and that weight loss is the solution. A 2003 analysis by the CDC found that “the prevalence of diabetes, either diagnosed or undiagnosed, and of impaired fasting glucose did not appear to increase substantially during the 1990s,” despite the sharp rise in obesity.
Globally 285 million people currently have diabetes, which is estimated to double by 2030. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) currently states that the top 5 countries with the highest amount of diabetic patients are as follows: * United States * Russia * Brazil * China * India 1.3 Describe possible key long-term complications to health as a result of having diabetes One of which a long term complication that diabetes can occur is having high blood sugar levels over a long period of time. This is the only factor that someone's risk for complications, genetics can also have a negative impact. The major
More than 12,000 bad reactions to vaccines are reported each year, if all doctors reported these reactions the total would be closer to 120,000 per year. Over 1,000 deaths are vaccine related. By 1997 families had received more than $802 million for hundreds of injuries and deaths from vaccinations. There are still thousands of cases pending totaling more than $1.7 billion. Vaccinations are more serious that the diseases they are supposed to protect a person from.
From the results of our survey that we did, we found that 100% of the people in our age group (15-17 years old) showed that enjoyment was the main factor that encourages them to get involved in physical activity. A reason for this could be that if people enjoy participating in a sport, they are most likely to be motivated to want to succeed and give it their all in whatever sport they are undertaking. Also, by people knowing that they are getting good results in their sports e.g. winning games, this gives them satisfaction and enjoyment to motivate them to train and work towards gaining more success. Another factor as to why people said that enjoyment was what encouraged them to participate in physical activity could be because with some sports, especially team sports, enjoyment can be gained through developing friendships.
10-21% of people with diabetes develop it xii. In 2005, a total of 46,739 people initiated treatment for end-stage renal disease (kidney failure) because of diabetes. (The World Almanac and Book of Facts 01-01-2010) i. Amputation xiii. It is the most common cause of non traumatic lower limb amputations xiv. The chance of amputation is 15 to 40 times greater for a diabetic than average American.
Reducing the number of people dying from cancer will have a significant impact on increasing life expectancy. CURRENT POSITION In recognition of the inequalities gap, Walsall set the year 2010 target to reduce cancer mortality in the under 75s by 27.5%. Since 1995-97 the rate has fallen by 13% from 150.3 per 100 000 to 130.8 per 100,000 in 2003-05. This means that 50 fewer Walsall people are dying each year from cancer than in 1995-97. Despite year on year fluctuations, Walsall tPCT is still on track to meet the 2010 target.
You must be immunized within one week to four months prior to exposure for the vaccine to be effective. The vaccine is composed of inactivated organisms from several virus strains with scientist attempt to include the most recent mutation. Vaccines are typically 67-92 percent effective. Although most people recover fully from the flu, some develop serious complications, including life threatening conditions such as pneumonia. About 20,000 people in the United States die from flu complications each year and thousands more need to be hospitalized prior to recovery.
Bill S.348 and bill H.R.486 would benefit all parties involved economically in the long run. If laws are put in place to increase educational demands and monitoring of medication history it will lead to the decrease of this type of drug abuse (www.ncsl.org). Patients inability to “doctor shop” will allow for less prescribing which will decrease street selling and crime related costs. According to Pisgah Laboratories in North Carolina, adding drug deterrent technology will increase the federal budget by about $200 billion overall (www.pigsahlabs.com). Cons: It will cost the federal government more money now due to having to pay out grants, as well as the pharmaceutical companies due to having to add drug deterrent ingredients to medications
