Before people start smoking they have a choice, but once you are a smoker that choice goes away and then you become and addict. Smoking tobacco cigarettes should be made illegal because even though you are the one making the decision to smoke, you are inflicting your choice on everyone else around you. Smoking causes severe damage to yourself and others. Not to mention the effect that smoking has on the environment. Smoking cigarettes, above all else is extremely bad for your health, not only physically but psychologically. Smoking can cause cancer of the mouth, throat, and lungs; 30% of deaths in Canada are due to smoking related cancer cases. Smoking has been linked to several physical damages as well, this includes aged eyes (tobacco destroys eye cells), wrinkled lips, stained teeth, stained fingers, and lifeless hair. Tobacco cigarettes are causes the buildup of plaque in arteries, causing heart attacks and heart diseases. Smoking causes severe damage to your health and physical appearance, therefore they should be illegal. Smoking cigarettes can cause harm not only to you, but others as well. Second hand smoke is a big problem for those that don’t smoke, it is virtually impossible to go anywhere and not be smelling or breathing in smoke from someone else’s bad decision. Second hand smoke, as well as first hand contact causes the buildup of plaque in arteries, causing heart attacks and heart diseases. Statistics say that just from second hand smoke 10-15% of non-smokers will die from lung cancer and 5.2% of non-smokers will die from throat cancer. Smoking causes harm to those who have made the chose not to smoke, and are being affected by it anyway.
