Everybody knows that smoking is a bad and unhealthy habit. Therefore, governments in the world have been considering if they should ban smoking in public places although some people say that they have the right to smoke and it does not affect anyone. However, smoking should be banned for three main reasons. The first reason is because of the risk of developing cancers. Smokers are 20 times more likely to have lung cancer, compared to nonsmokers. Moreover, mouth cancer is also caused by smoking. In fact, people are killed by cigarettes more than vehicle accidents or HIV/ AIDS. Besides, smoking has more damage on women’s health than men’s and if a pregnant woman smokes, her baby will be affected. There seems to be no reason for cigarettes to exist. Next, smoking does not only affect smokers but nonsmokers also. For those who choose not to smoke, it is very unpleasant to be around someone who is smoking because they cannot stand the smoke from cigarettes. Furthermore, passive smokers (people who do not smoke but they have the inhalation of smoke from cigarettes used by active smokers) face the same risk of having illnesses as direct smokers. Many people who work in night clubs or bars complain that they often cough because of the smoke from their customers’ cigarettes. It is so unreasonable to harm these innocent people by someone’s smoking. Last but not least, smoking is a waste of money. A little pack of cigarettes does not cost too much, just about $5.5. However, a recent survey states that 84% of smokers do smoke a pack of cigarettes daily.
