Should mothers be encouraged to breast feed infants? Introduction Humans are born with specialized bodies and are given the most amazing abilities, one of which is breastfeeding. I believe there is a reason that women have been given the ability to breast feed their infants and that ability should be utilized to its maximum benefits. Breast milk is a unique nutritional source that cannot adequately be replaced by any other food, including infant formula. Early breast milk is considered liquid gold as it carries many nutritional values for a newborn baby. The first milk also known as colostrum is a form of milk produced by the mammary glands of mammals (including humans) in late pregnancy. Colostrum contains antibodies to protect the newborn against disease, as well as being lower in fat and higher in protein than ordinary milk or infant formula. Majorly breastfeeding helps build the immunity of a new born as newborns have very immature digestive systems, and breastfeeding delivers its nutrients in a very concentrated low-volume form. It has a mild laxative effect, encouraging the passing of the baby's first stool and the waste-product of dead red blood cells from the infant's body and helps prevent jaundice. The Risks of Formula Feeding Versus the Benefits of Breastfeeding An average American prefers to feed formula to their babies because they like the fact that it is instant. Life has become so fast and rapid that breastfeeding seems a task to a lot of families around the globe. Breastfeeding may take a little more effort than formula feeding at first, but it is the best nutrition a mother can provide for her baby and it forms a special between the baby and the mother. Formula and feeding supplies can cost well over $1,500 each year, depending on how much your baby eats. Breastfed babies are also sick less often, which can lower health care costs. Infant
