Should abortion be illegal? Abortion has been and still is an issue of debate to this day. Lots of people have taken sides on this issue. Some are for abortion while others are against it. There are some people that feel abortion should only be legal in certain situations like if the woman was raped. But it was the case of Roe v. Wade where the court deemed abortion a fundamental right under the constitution. What is abortion and should it be legal? Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo, resulting in or caused by its death. Abortion is not only the killing of a fetus, but can also provide health risks for the mother and should be illegal. In addition Doctors are supposed to be saving lives, not killing unborn babies. Abortion also goes against what the Bible teaches. By 1965 abortion was illegal in the United States. Some states did include provisions allowing for abortion in limited circumstances; generally with the purpose of protecting the woman's life or pregnancies related to rape or incest. This all changed in 1973 with the case Roe v. Wade. Roe v. Wade is the historic Supreme Court decision overturning a Texas interpretation of abortion law and making abortion legal in the United States. The Roe v. Wade decision held that a woman, with her doctor, could choose abortion in earlier months of pregnancy without legal restriction, and with restrictions in later months, based on the right to privacy (Roe v.
