She is never happy when I get a new pair of sneakers with an outfit to match, but I have a fetish for new sneakers! As I am growing older I begin to wear shoes and clothes that make’s me look more like a presentable young lady and my mom is very fond of the new me. “If there is no struggle there is no progress,” these words spoken by Fredrick Douglas, reflect the essence of my families’ motivation to stay strong and always peruse a better life. This quote is especially significant to me because it reflects my drive and passion to achieve my own dreams in life. My parents played a major role in inspiring me to help other people, and to work hard to achieve my goals; they thought me by example. I realized that I have been blessed to have the parents that I do. I deeply value what they have thought me: the strength, integrity, and compassion for others.
To me a very good book is exciting, suspenseful, and funny the whole way through. Some people would say that this book is sexist because of how Miles and Phelps talk to and about girls. But really that’s the way guys are, and when Miles is with Angie he is nothing but nice to her. Miles’s idol is also a girl so that would make no since if he was sexist against girls. I like the friendship between Miles and Phelps because they get closer as the book goes on.
Cal expresses it in such a way that it so meaningful to the characters in the story, society itself, and the viewers. In, Until They Bring the Streetcars Back, the characters find themselves discovering the soft side of Cal Gant that they would have never thought they would have found. Some of the characters that acknowledge it were Gretchen, Peggy, Spence, and Sergeant Riley. Gretchen was always repressing him back because she knew after awhile that he was nice and innocent. Peggy, as his little sister, knew him very well but could always tell when he rapidly would grow up to be a good guy.

“However, people in many other parts of the world think and feel positively about aging and assign a positive value and meaningful role to the aging members of their communities” (Williford, 1998, p.4). This promotes a healthy view for the older people in these communities. For them, aging means status and authority. Needless to say, people in late adulthood in these parts of the world are actually respected and valued more. The U.S. refers to aging with less than desirable characteristics such as memory loss, gray hair, and wrinkled skin.
Since being in this course I had some challenges that I hope I have overcome some of them. I feel that I have a long way to go but I do not want to give up. I have enjoyed this class immensely and feel that I have grown a little. I really enjoyed the learning how to prepare PowerPoint presentations as I do believe that is my favorite. It has been a long time since I have been in school and I am not as confident as I want to be yet.
6/19/2013 Summary of “Tradition and Change” Everyone gets comfortable with how everything is currently and with repeating old traditions but change is inevitable. Some welcome change happily whilst others find it hard to stray from the ways things have always been. Jeanne Harnois, a writer in Boston, explains that tradition can be comforting and should be respected, that tradition can be a double edged sword, and also that people have mixed approaches when it comes to tradition in her article “Tradition and Change.” Harnois expresses that just knowing something is as it has always been can be comforting and many people respect that. In one instance, a bridge was renovated in Harois’s hometown and even though she had not seen the bridge in years it was still a bit of a shock to hear it had been changed. It was comforting that the bridge was the same as it always was so hearing that it was being changed removed some of that comfort.
