TDA 2.5: Schools as Organisations 1 Know the different types of schools in the education sector. 1.1 Identify the main types of state and independent schools. 1.2 Describe the characteristics of the different types of schools in relation to educational stages(s) and school governance. Please refer to classroom work and supporting documentation from 8 October 2012. 2 Know how schools are organised in terms of roles and responsibilities. 2.1 Describe the role and responsibilities of: * School governors * Senior management team * Other statutory roles e.g. SENCO * Teachers * Support staff Role | Responsibilities | School Governors | Volunteers, who with the Head Teacher ensure the school, provide a good quality education. Set the aims and policies of the school. Set the school’s budget. | Senior Management Team | Usually made up of the Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and senior teachers with curriculum responsibility and Senco. Set strategic direction of the school and manage/lead it. | SENCO | Support, identify, train, advise and help overcome barriers within the school for children with SEN or disability. Liaise with other external professionals with may come into contact with the pupil i.e. Physio, speech and language. | Teachers | Deliver curriculum, class responsibility. Plan and assess work, consult with parents and teach differentiation. | Support Staff | Plan and support work with the teacher. Photocopy, administration, observation with assessment and recording of results.
