SA NGALAN NG TUBO 1. The documentary was entitled “Sa Ngalan ng Tubo” mainly because it presents the conflict between the owners and workers of the Hacienda Luisita, a wide sugar plantation in Tarlac. It shows the struggle of the workers to correct the unrighteous treatment of them by the owners. 2. The root cause of the conflict was the mistreatment of the workers by the owners, the Cojuangco family. They weren’t being given their fair share of wages and benefits. They also appealed for a piece of land in the hacienda. In the land that they helped develop, their effort was not rewarded accordingly. They felt they were being denied of their share. They felt abused. They started to stop working. From there, the drama continued until the day of the massacre, November 16, 2004. 3. The only form of Social Stratification in the documentary is slavery. The owners (Cojuangcos) treated their workers like mere gears to make the engine function. The workers are not treated in a humane way. They did not receive well-deserved benefits for their service.…show more content…
The situation presented in the documentary strongly supports the conflict theory and Marx’s perspective. It shows how social stratification affects the way owners treat workers. It exemplifies the “bourgeois” and “proletariat” in the society. The Cojuangcos taking advantage of their extreme wealth to enslave ordinary people. They would exploit the workers for them to gain more wealth. Promises of better benefits were said but never materialized up to this day. The “haves” would do anything to keep power, wealth, and advantage over the “have not’s”. It was also stated by Marx that the family-elite will be a device of keeping wealth & education in hands of few, namely the Cojuangco & Aquino
