Policing in American Society In the United States of America there are two levels of police, federal and state. This paper will summarize the relationship between the U.S government and the policing organizations throughout the U.S and the impact of this relationship on American society. The federal police level consists of numerous organizations that include but are not limited to the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. An integral component to the infrastructure of government is law enforcement. In recent years, police actions, particularly police abuse has come into view of a wide, public and critical eye. While citizens worry about protecting themselves from criminals, it has now been shown that they must also keep a watchful eye on those who are supposed to protect and serve. Abstract This paper reviews the organizational subsystem and subsystem tasks of modern police department. Why these tasks must be grouped into like subsystem functions to be effective. It also, examines how the police organization must adhere to a chain of command in order communicate. The role supervisors, management and the administration must take in delegating authority and methods to monitor its misuse or abuse. How well developed organizational policies and procedures guide the use of police employee discretion to ensure the philosophy of the department is met.

If the society allows the moral duty to follow legal rules to be overridden by other factors, there would be increased cases of disregard of the general law. Each and every law established by a given society has a valid justification. As a result, every law has a moral basis upon which people should reflect on.
