Rodney King John doe anywhere Abstract When Rodney Glen King awoke on March 3, 1991, I doubt he had any idea the impact this day would have not only on him but the United States as a whole. How the wrongful conduct of police and suspicious handling of police trails involving the incident sparked one of the worst riots in LA history. In this paper I will cover what happened and my thoughts on what we should learn from this. Not only that but his story would enrage the public and become one of the worst race riots in United States history. Rodney king was out celebrating the prospect of being rehired to a construction company that he had previously worked for with two friends. But on the way home he was speeding in access of 100 mph. Because of this police followed in pursuit, but due to the fact Rodney King was already on parole; he decided to take police on eight mile chase before finally stopping. What happened next was video taped by George Holliday which was the brutal beating of Rodney King by four Los Angeles Police officers. And due to the evidence primarily the injuries sustained from the brutal attack and the video, Rodney King became a symbol of racial tension in America. The months following the brutal attack saw the officers Laurence Powell, Timothy Wind, Theodore Briseno and Stacey Koon were charged with criminal offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon. Buts sadly thru it all even after his memoir The Riot Within: My Journey from Rebellion to Redemption. And appearance on VH1's Celebrity Rehab there was one last sad twist to Rodney kings tale. The fact that on June 17, 2012; He was found at the bottom of his swimming pool dead. Looking at what I have watched and read on Rodney king I think that he was an average guy that just had bad luck and even though he tried to rise above it in the end it finally took it’s toll. But on to end on a good note he did influence the United States and help bring to light a major issues in society and for that even though I am sure he was not looking to get brutalized the rest of us can thank him for making the Justice system just a little bit better. Ultimately I feel The main essence of this paper is not just looking at Rodney king but also the circumstances that caused the 1992 LA riots.
