Critiquing Use of Theory in Research Articles In this write-up, I identify article A that was assigned to me as adopting quantitative research method and support my assertion with analysis of three defining characteristics of quantitative, describe and critique the theoretical framework using the “Use of Theory Checklist” as a guide. I also, analyze two assumptions in my assigned articles. Article A. Gagnon, M. A., Jansen, K. J. & Michael, J. H. (2008). He also said that it builds protection against bias controlling alternative explanations, and being able to generalized and replicate findings (Creswell, 2009) p.4. From the above definition, three major characteristics of quantitative are presence of variables both dependent and independent ones, hypothesis, deductive testing of theory and a set structure of final report. (a). A set structure of report could be identified in the article A as it consists of introduction, literature, hypothesis, methods, results, discussions, and implications for practice in that sequence. (b). Variables. There were dependable variable (strategic supportive behavior) and independent variables (strategic knowledge, openness to experience, perceived company trust and company tenure) in the article. (C). Past works investigated commitment and implementation in middle management and upper echelons contexts (Gagnon et al., 2008). • The authors’ advances hypothesis base on the theory, for instance hypothesis three state that strategic commitment will be positively related to engagement in strategy supportive behavior (Gagnon et al., 2008). • The authors identified independent and dependent variables in the article. Examples of independent variables identified include strategic knowledge; openness to experience, perceived company trust and company tenure while the dependent variable is strategic supportive behavior (Gagnon et al., 2008). • The authors stated how the independent and dependent variables are related.
