INTRODUCTION TO DUTY OF CARE IN HEALTH, SOCIAL CARE 1.1 As a care worker, you have a legal obligation to adopt a ‘duty of care’ approach towards the people within your service. You are required to work in the best interests of the people using the service which includes maintaining their safety and wellbeing. 1.2 It is important to carry out duties that are in own job description and that you are competent. This includes the use of any available resources such as hoists for the moving of residents and ensuring training is up to date by attending all relevant courses.

Although national evidence based research effects nursing as a whole, the staff nurse believes that nursing research has greatly improved her area. Contrarily, the educator used local research in her area to show improvement for her immediate population. The first interviewee’s focus for facilitating patient care involved many aspect of nursing. Jean Watson Human Caring Theory Hector Bueno Nurs 403 October 29, 2012 Karen Benjamin RN, MSN Nursing has grown to become the main facilitator in the guidance of peoples’ health plans. Since the time of Florence Nightengale and her environmental theory, many different approaches have been brought upon our nursing environment in order to completely and truly understand the anatomy, physiology, and psychology aspect of the human body through theoretical concepts. Through years, theorists have written guidelines in which have allowed healthcare personnel to follow in order to fully meet a persons’ needs. Theorist have based their beliefs on facts that enables the human body to heal properly, enables for the continuance of an established health care plan, and on facts that lead to the deterioration of the human body and mind. From the understanding of how a person can adapt the human body and mind to a present scenario/situation to Watson’s Human Caring Theory, theories have been the back bone of all nursing education.
According to White, K. R. (2014) “Nurse were the original servant leaders—at the patient’s beside and in communities- and now they are perfectly positioned to take their experience with leadership to a heightened level. In the new world order, nurses have moved from the background to the boardroom, and they have been put in the spotlight to lead transformation of quality healthcare.” (pg.27). White describes how far nursing leaders have come and play an important role on the healthcare team. In their personal experienced they understand what it takes to be a bedside nurse and a second opinion to the physicians. Nursing Leaders They spend their time in areas such as human resources, business planning, quality reporting, information management, and report writing.
Bringing together education and healing was a life-changing experience that made me realize that nursing is my true calling. Traditionally, nurses were viewed as caregivers. In today’s world, image of nursing profession changes as nurses play many other roles such as patient’s advocates, educators, managers, team members, facilitators, and experts. (Zerwekh, 2006). As I read the entries from my reflective journal, I could see how my focus shifted from assisting patient with his basic needs at the beginning of the nursing school to more comprehensive nursing care today.
The symposium provided me with the fundamental knowledge of the issues that the health care industry faced today. During the past year and six months I strived to learn more about public health both through coursework and work in the field. Since practical experience is an essential learning tool, I went on to expand my experience in the field of public health. I was fortunate to have landed a job as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Borgess Medical Center, the position allowed me to view public health at a different level. Working as a Clinical Research Coordinator I was responsible for overseeing and coordinating the initiation, implementation, and development of clinical research protocols to meet requirements and objectives of Borgess Research Institute, Food and Drug administration (FDA) Regulations and ICH Guidelines, sponsor Guidelines, Institutional Review Board and Investigator and patient needs.
Following on from the definition of health WHO (1998) defines Health Promotion as, “The process of enabling people to increase control over, and improve their health”. (Ewles and Simnett 2003 pp.23) For the purpose of this essay, skills and knowledge required by nurses and their role in promoting health effectively will be discussed, and an example from clinical practice will be used to demonstrate the importance of Health Promotion. Confidentiality will be maintained as required by the Nursing Midwifery council (2008) and the patient will be referred to as Tom. Also to be discussed will be the barriers in effective health promotion. Example from practice Whilst on placement with district nurses, I attended a home visit to Tom.
