Achieving the goals of the report would not be a simple mission but is very much probable. As a nurse, I would particularly advance my skills in the nursing career in order to achieve the objectives set by the Institute of medicine report. (Institute of medicine, 2010). There are continuous modifications in the education scheme and nurses ought to keep up to date with the improved information in the field of nursing. Different skills are trained in the institutions of higher learning and hence going back to universities to get a master’s degree is a major step in achieving the objectives set by the report.
Running head: NURSING PHILOSPHY Nursing Philosophy Grand Canyon University: NRS 430V 19 August 2011 Nursing Philosophy Every person may have their individual perspective about nursing. Professional nurses continue to develop their own philosophies with experiences they each have with their patients. It is very difficult to face the demands of caring for people from day to day without the solid foundation of a personal philosophy. As each nurse grows within their career their philosophy will continue to grow and shape as they learn new experiences. The nursing education of each nurse receives helps them to establish their philosophy.
In doing so, nurses must be care-givers and educators - providing the necessary information, skills and knowledge, to their patients to allow for self-nurturance, well-being, and growth. I started my journey in the field of nursing two years ago. My personal values, combined with the strong desire to help others influenced me to enroll in the Licensed Practical Nurse program. This career path has provided such great opportunities to help others, and has allowed for my own personal growth. I am continuously looking for new and great ideas to better the field of nursing and the ultimate goal of helping those in need.
After I graduated from nursing school, I worked as a nurse in Medical -Surgical, Neurology and Cardiac Care. In addition I have worked as a faculty in a nursing undergraduate program. During my tenure as a Medical-Surgical nurse I sought to increase my knowledge and skills. I further explored my calling as a nurse by transitioning to a critical care which increased my knowledge base and clinical skills. My career is challenging and has led me to contemplate pursuing an advanced degree in nursing and particularly the CRNA specialty.
In addition to the formalized education they receive in nursing school, there is also much to learn when they transition from student to professional nurse. It is the responsibility of the organization to make sure that their staff is competent and skilled to perform the duties expected of them. Morrison (2011) states “When patients or clients enter the healthcare system at any level, they make at least one assumption – that those who are treating them know what they are doing”. In the case of Lawanda Person and St. Dismas hospital, it seems that there were many areas where fault could be found. Lawanda Person was a recently graduated nursing student with limited medical/surgical unit experience hired to work in a critical care unit at St. Dismas Hospital.
I will need to learn everything I can including healthcare management, finance and accounting, legal & ethical parameters, patient laws and health and disease factors. I must be able to have the needed experience and appropriate employer/employee communication skills to effectively run and manage a facility. It is extremely important I am the effect leader of a group of team players as successful leaders have an understanding of how much employee learns best. My experience and classes earning this degree will provide the needed knowledge for my field, as well as numerous team project activities to help me manage groups and learn more about people. The delivery for long-term health care has greatly changed over the years.
In order to accomplish goals, a plan must be laid out. My educational goal is to be a Licensed Practical Nurse which in turn will lead to my career goal of becoming a home health nurse. will lead to a satisfying health profession where I can assist those in need of improving the status of their health. My career goals is to become a Home Health Nurse. Nursing is a career filled with endless personal and professional rewards.
