As individuals enroll children into school, there is a certain expectation in the classroom from the teachers and other administrators at the school. Some children present in class with the proper behavior expected, and there are some who find it hard to sit still, focus, and not fidget compulsively while listening to the teacher or working on class assignments. These children with behavioral issues may find themselves in the principal’s office and the parents wondering what to do next. The strengths of those opposing the use of stimulants posit the decrease in growth, and the effects of the drug on individuals who use it. The information gains support from studies showing the decrease in physical growth of individuals during the use, and the effects of the drug in social growth (Halgin, 2010). Halgin (2010) states, the use of the stimulants limit the creativity of the individual when it suppresses the normal functions of the mind. The argument builds with solid foundation and support, but reaches and loses strength when pursuing proponents for the use of stimulants. The argument loses ground and flavor when trying to argue the credibility of the proponents and diagnosing individuals. The argument against the use of stimulants is valid and presents a solid argument. In retrospect, I feel that the use of the stimulants present complications that out weight the use of the drug. The behavior issues that teachers find in a classroom are not always related to the individual suffering from ADHD, but are a behavior issue that one can correct over time. The fix-it-now society wants something done immediately rather than addressing the issues and finding other means to correct the
