Josh Bowman B Hour Mind Expanding Drugs Should Be Legal The use of drugs has been around for thousands of years and has played part of almost every culture and society on Earth. From the consumption of ethanol by the ancient Egyptians to the newest research chemical in existence, the use of drugs have remained one the most disputed moral and ideological concepts of modern society. There are a variety of recreational drugs available today and it is evident that not all drugs have detrimental effects. There are essentially two categories of drugs: mind expanding drugs and mind constricting drugs. The key distinction between mind expanding drugs and mind constricting drugs should be based off how it affects intellectual stimulation and growth. Mind expanding drugs should widen the range knowledge and perception as well educate the user in the ‘expansion’ of his/her mind. Mind constricting drugs on the other hand prevent the user from learning. The general belief that the use of drugs (expanding or constricting) except in the case of medical need is ethically unacceptable is ignorant and cowardly. The prevention of mind constricting drugs is in fact correct and must be enforced to maintain liberty for people. Mind constricting drugs such as opiates and amphetamines must be considered immoral. They only destroy self-control and freedom. The prevention of mind expanding drugs is false and unnecessarily infringe on people’s liberty. The correct use of mind expanding drugs can only lead to a better fulfillment of the human identity and a greater understanding of reality. Mind expanding drugs must become legal. One argument against drug use is that the addiction and desperation that occurs along with it. Many users lose themselves to their weakness of will and emotionally and physically depend on the drug.
