In all four of John Foulcher’s poems, a common theme of cruelty and brutality exists. He reinforces the theme by utilizing a number of techniques throughout. In Martin and the Hand Grenade, man’s destructive power is highlighted. In both A Crow that came for the Chickens and For the Fire, the cruelty of nature is implied. This is also evident in Harry Wood, in which we see the theme of death and survival.
This quote shows that Odysseus bow is not easy too string only he can string it proving that he is strong physically. Odysseus is in disguise when he is given the bow so they don’t know that it’s really him stringing his own bow. Another quote that also shows how strong he is can be “So the great solider took his bow and bent it for the bowstring effortlessly. He drilled the axe heads clean, sprang, and decanted arrows on the door sill, glared, and drew again. This time he killed Antinoos.”(450, 196-201).
He proves his racist nature when he says to Brabantio, “Even now, now, very now, an old black ram is tupping your white ewe.” (Act-1, Scene-1, 90-91) He also says that, “… your daughter and the Moore are now making the beast with two backs.” (Act-1 Scene-1, 117-118) Othello in Ashland didn’t do as good of a job portraying how Othello is in Shakespeare’s original play. He does go into fits of passion and rage, but also overdoes those fits. He screams and shakes more like he is having a seizure than a fit of passion. He also spits and drools which kills the seriousness of his role in the play. Othello does do a good job of portraying the lack of self confidence, and at the same time the arrogance that Othello has.
