Family Guy is an animated comedy about the Griffin family, who lives in Quahog, Rhode Island. The show features several scenes of pop culture references and makes fun of every race as well as celebrities. Gender Socialization is very apparent within the script. Peter Griffin is the ignorant father who does crazy things whenever he wants to and somehow he always finds a way to justify his actions. Lois is Peter's wife, a stay at home mom with no patience for her family's crazy ways.
All of the clips in this sequence are in black and white and the quality is of an old film-reel projector. The director then cuts the camera to an establishing shot of a block of flats, with a popular song playing, which is non-digetic. There is then a sound-bridge and the next shot is of the family’s kitchen, where the song changes to a digetic sound and it sounds as if it is coming from the radio. The scene from inside the kitchen follows David as he complains about Ben finishing the cereal. David tries to steal some of his brother’s breakfast, but both parents tell him off.
Cosmetic beauty allows you to be diverse and express yourself, it also allows you to try to test and come up with many different looks. Generally speaking one day you could change your look, and be chic and sexy, while on another day you could calm your appearance down and have a more innocent and sweet look. Confidence is the key in the cosmetic outlook. Many females feel more beautiful and nice about themselves due to the fact that they have makeup on; you could say that cosmetics help people feel more self assured about themselves. In today’s generation people are a lot more judgmental, therefore many women believe they have imperfections and flaws.
The close up on Susan Sarandon’s face is used to show how beautiful she is because she uses REVLON. By using her beauty it gives the product credibility and it manipulates people because a famous person is being used and one immediately assumes that the product must be good. Furthermore, alliteration is used. Susan Sarandon’s initials match the initials of the title “Star Style” people will be more compelled to buy the product because she uses it and especially because the words confident and charismatic are used to describe her, again alliteration is shown. The REVLON advertisement use of rhetoric appeals to those who know who Sandra is and like
This differs from “sea Oak” which is about a young male stripper who plays the male role in the family, they live in poor projects where there is a lot of turmoil. The happy go lucky narrator is “haunted” by his aunt, who when alive worked double shifts and never complained, she never even got married because she had to work, however when she came back to haunt the narrator she was very nasty “You , mister, are going to start showing your cock. You go up to a lady, if she’ll pay to see it, I’ll make a thumbprint on the forehead. I’ll try to get you five a day, at twenty bucks a pop. So a hundred bucks a day.” (Saunders, 112).
Week 7 Assignment 2 Through history women and the GLBT, community has been looked down upon as inferior to men. As time has proven to be a good thing for women especially the last decade because it has been a time of great advancement for women in the workforce and the outlook that society has on them. I think that people in the United States are also becoming more comfortable with the GLBT community. More people are able to express themselves for who they really are and people are becoming more open to the idea of love without limits. I think it is important to look back from where we have come and see the progress that is being made from where we started to where we are today.
The first one is called The Evolutionary Advantage, which states that people with symmetric are usually found more attractive because having a symmetrical face is linked to how healthy that person is. The other theory is called The Perceptual Bias and this theory claims that our bodies are “hard-wired” to process people with symmetrical faces and those without. The third thing the book talks about is makeup. Makeup is used to improve the attractiveness of a woman’s face. Makeup is usually used to darken around the eyes and lips to amplify their features.
Another factor as to why people said that enjoyment was what encouraged them to participate in physical activity could be because with some sports, especially team sports, enjoyment can be gained through developing friendships. This means that if they are enjoying themselves while exercising, they are often having a good time, share a few laughs with one another, and motivate each other to succeed. Either way, by socialising with other people while participating in physical activity, can assist in enjoying physical activity. From the survey we did of the school leavers (18-25 year olds) we found that 80% of the girls participated in physical activity for their health. A reason for this could be that they want to maintain their body image, keep themselves fit and active, rather than put on weight.
