PHL 323 Ethics in Management System of Inquiry Paper Lori Jackson June 4th, 2012 Frank Campbell Introduction As part of the syllabus for PHL 323, Ethics in Management the class members were asked to define what a system of inquiry is. The code of ethics for Agency XYZ [Note: This is not the actual name for security reasons] a government security agency, will be discussed. An evaluation of the decision making, problem solving, and behavior in a government setting will be covered as well. This model will include the basic framework and a discussion of why, how, when, and the code of ethics is used. It will also address how to implement the System of Inquiry, the possible employee responses to the System of Inquiry from current employees, and the impact the System of Inquiry would have on the organization. Definition of a System of Inquiry A system of inquiry pertains to an ethical problem-solving model that is used to make decisions. Basically, a system of inquiry is a tool that many companies use for decision-making and problem-solving. The basic structure would include a discussion of why, how, when and by whom the system of inquiry would be used. It would also assist organizations in achieving their objectives and assist them in being proactive. Organizational Code of Ethics The organizational code of ethics for Agency XYZ is a very formal program governed by an Executive order. There is excellent support from upper echelons as well as front line leadership at Agency XYZ for their existing Code of ethics program. The organizational code of ethics at Agency XYZ is clearly documented. To ensure that every employee can have complete trust in the integrity of the Federal Government, every employee is trained on and fully understands, respect and adheres to the principles established in the established code of ethics.
