Driving or operating any vehicle is a very irresponsible decision and it is also against the law, which can lead to huge fines, suspension of license, and possibly jail time. According to “Ca.gov” (2011) “section 23152 it is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle. Part B it is unlawful for any person who has 0.08 percent or more by weight, of alcohol in his or her blood to drive a vehicle” (VC Section 23152 Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs). Driving under the influence is one of the leading causes of automobile accidents in the world today. Drinking or using drugs impairs your senses and results in decreased muscle coordination and slower reaction times. Driving under the influence shouldn’t even be considered because you’re not only putting your life at risk but you are risking the lives of others. Today, one in three people will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime. Another factor to consider when refraining from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is the consequences made by the law. One thing is for sure that getting convicted of driving under the influence will definitely cost a pretty penny even for your first offense. A single DUI (Driving Under the Influence) conviction could cost you as much as $5,000 or more after all fines fees has been paid and your license will also be suspended. The cost could even get higher if the request for restricted driver license for driving to work during your suspension is denied. Then they will have to pay additional money on other means of transportation such as the bus, taxi, or fair. Also with your first offense it could lead up to 24 hours to 12 months in jail as well.
