Personality Analysis Paper Name December 13, 2010 PSY/ 405 Bernard Wakley Personality Analysis Paper Personality is a highly debated and highly researched subject. There are many theories as well as theorists who have looked into personalities in people and what makes up a person’s personality. Theorists have been interested in why people develop personality, what makes a person’s personality unique, and how personality should be analyzed. This paper will take a closer look at the dispositional approach to personality as well as the humanistic and existential approach to personality. The paper will describe the role of personality in affecting situational behavior by comparing and contrasting both approaches. The paper will also examine the personality characteristics of each theory and explain the interpersonal relational aspects of each theory. Personality in Affecting Situational Behavior A person’s personality makes the person who he or she is. Theorists of personality tend to theorize that a person’s personality is unique to the person and is how the person acts or reacts to his or her environment. The differences in each person’s personality may lead one person to react to a situation differently then another person. Everyone has a different personality type, he or she has different ways to interpret the same situation and decide how to react to it. Someone may believe that stealing is fine given certain situations, but another person may think that it is always immoral and should never be done. The two different reactions that the people show are due to his or her personality type, his or her experiences in life, and how he or she interpret the situation at hand.
