They should be a support system and be there for you as much as you would be there for them and it’s always nice to have good influences as you grow into adulthood. And finding a friend that will be there to help me on my high school journey is exactly what I would like to find. Conclusively, my high school goals might not be easy but I am willing to take the challenge. I wish to accomplish nothing more than being happy with the paths and achievements I face in high school and in life as well. My standards might be a bit high but as Jimmy Dean once said, “I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” And I am proud to say I am not scared of failing because life is filled with obstacles and obstacles are just frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your
Benjamin Franklin once said “If a man empties his purse into his head no one can take it away from him. An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest”. To me this means very specifically that knowledge is the greatest investment one can ingest in because with knowledge one can succeed in what they have as a goal. As Constanzo says in his article “If you are as good a writer as you think you are, you have nothing to lose if you use the time in the remedial class to work to become even better”. When I came to know that I have been asked to take English remedial class, I was a bit mad at first, but then I thought that this class would make me better.
It appears that testing is a waste of time, but in reality, it prepares students for future success. Another question that occurs is: What are students gaining from these different tests each year? Many people debate whether the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) is considered to be pointless. Maybe these tests are teaching students accountability and responsibility, two vital tools for success in life. Within in the article, “No Child Left Behind: Test-Obsessed Education Won’t Move Us Ahead” the author, David Marshak, slashes the No Child Left Behind Act.
A simple choice like that can make a total difference in whether they really learned something or if they cheated themselves. I believe the students can decide if they want to succeed, and a lot of times after graduating high school they might become more mature and realize education is the key and be behind like they did in high school. Daniel Bruno's examples in the paper were very insightful. They gave you a better understanding of what he was talking about, rather than having to guess. His example of Thomas Jefferson's quote was a very good example because Thomas Jefferson is a very inspirational figure for the U.S. and people will take his words to heart.
Blinder’s essay was thought out and written properly on one point I think was off. Blinder referred to the “No Child Left Behind” as an institution set up to help student get ahead, when that very program nulls the thinking of students. Alan Blinder will need college students to work “on developing a creative workforce that will keep America incubating”(Blinder 12) but within the No Child Left Behind Act students are forced to learn at the same pace as the slowest student in the room, which does nothing for the new innovator of tomorrow who will become bored with school after having to slow there pace of learning. If Alan would have used this act as a part of his reform in the educational system it would have supported his claims of the system that we already have is hurting of future and not insuring that our younger generations will be able to compete in this
The core message of the selected quote is that kindness and goodness is no longer a privilege. It is a necessity and an absolute requirement for the progression of the next generation. As I advance through high school hallways and into open university pastures, I must remind myself with Vonnegut’s cold, satirical message that I am no longer allowed to act the sophomoric teenager, the woman who is unable to control her emotions, the student who cannot take care of herself. He reminds me that it is a necessity that I mature myself and that I become--among so many other things such as wise, intelligent, witty, generous, and grounded--kind in nature. We as college students, and indeed as current high school students, cannot afford to live in a world where kindness is difficult to find.
It will soon effect or change you or your outlook on life in some way shape or form. But set aside the fact that I lost my mom didn’t mean that I was about to make everyone feel sorry for me. But inspired me to go on with my education, to be more determined and focused on getting my high school diploma and show her that I would be the person that I once told her I was going to be. That’s why people cannot tell when someone’s life will begin nor end because nowadays you just never know. Hamlet emphasizes “Devoutly to be wished.
Ever have that feeling of not being accepted into a certain group you really wanted to be friends with or join. Many high schoolers have been through this. The main high school cliques are the popular groups, nerdy groups, and the neutral groups. Whatever group you're in, it shouldn't matter. We've all been wanting to be friends with those couple of cool kids to feel fully accepted and that you actually matter.
Being the first person in my family to get a college degree makes me feel so good. Setting example for children and letting them see that mommy can do it is priceless. The things that we do in life as far as school wise are thing we can take us to the next level is just a lot of us lose hope we are not sure where to go. I though getting a high school diploma was fine for me. I felt school was not for me because I have dyslexic and, I feel people just don’t want to help me.
Though it was overwhelming, when classes started I had a chance to make actual connections with people and make new friends. Shockingly, some of the best friends I have made in college aren’t even in my classes, but are people who live on my floor and have similar interests, hobbies, and morals as me. Comparing now the friends I have made in high school to the friends I have made in college, I could and would leave many of my high school friends behind. The friends I have made in college support me and have changed me for the better. High school is, and always will
