It was a bright energetic night, after the team had won their last football game for the playoffs; they were having a good time in one of the biggest, well known bars in NYC. Just as the clock struck 12, indicating it was midnight, 5 out of the 13 players took off on their own. I was one of them. We had decided that staying at the bar wasn’t enough of a celebration for our victory considering that our little group consisting of the quarterback, the two wide receivers, and the two running backs was the crème of the crop. The ones that really mattered. Our quarterback, James, had the idea to kick off the rest of the night by bringing out the “MJ”, the “real stuff” he called it. The three of them started to do our Bulldog team chant as David, the other running back, and I joined in for the chant, although the two of us shared a sense of uncertainty regarding the plans for the night. David was the first to crack. “I don’t know if this is the best night for this guys,” he said skeptically. James turned and laughed while saying, “oh c’mon the seasons over, we deserve it anyways! Loosen up David.” David reluctantly followed behind them. Billy brought me into the little dispute, only adding tension, by questioning me, as if he was trying to belittle me. “What about you Faiz? Feeling like dropping this one too?” I had to make a decision, whether to side with David, like I’ve always done, let alone that it was the right thing to do, or to stand eye to eye with Billy, who always wanted to prove himself to be the better receiver. Just as I was about to defend my case, Ricky hopped in and told Billy to ease up.
